Anxiety induced itching?

Has anyone had all over itching without a rash that was caused from anxiety?

I'm dealing with this now, and that it was from taking Ativan. Now I'm thinking it's stress or anxiety over taking new meds.

The new meds are Lexapro, which I haven't started yet, and Ativan, which I've only taken twice.

      Thanks for replying!

I had a panic attack trying to start earlier, but was able to stop it. However, the itching started right after that, and there's no meds in my system today. So frustrating.

I was getting when my anxiety first started to peak after some sort of viral infection which was now over a year ago.. stress and anxiety can do alot of weird things to the body and im just assuming the overload of hormones that is released due to it may cause the itching? Not a doctor so i wouldnt know just my theory on it haha

That's what I'm thinking too. This isn't the first time this has happened, but it's the first time I considered it to possibly be from anxiety.

While what you describe could possibly be attributed to nervous system reaction, I would still get in touch with the prescribing doctor and see what he/she thinks. Itching even without a rash with a new medicine is usually not taken lightly.

Yep, I called and a nurse called me back to get the info. She later called again, and said that the doctor wants me to stop the med, but he's not prescribing anything new. My next appointment with him is on the 26th, so that's not going to work. It would have been nice to talk to him directly, because I've had this med before during an ER trip to the hospital, and had no problems with it. This is something he knows, but I'm a new patient, so I doubt he remembers.

I think I'll just go back to the shrink that I've been with for almost 20 years. I only left her because of the distance, but now I see how much it was worth it. At the new shrink, it seems like a cattle call with revolving doors. My first appointment was to be an hour long, but it was only 15 minutes at most, and he never looked up from a paper. That experience blew my mind! lol

I tried that med again last night, but only half of it, and kept benadryl handy. I had no problems at all, so we'll see what happens when I speak to the doctor I'm going back to.

. Well, you may be stung by a bee once and not have a reaction. Stung second time and no reaction. Stung third time and ... voila.

You can't imagine how long it took me to figure out my recurring itching and rashes were linked to Panadol smile I was 30 - that is plenty of toothaches, headaches and period pains Panadol and I bridged together before the reactions appeared.

Now It is possible that it is not the medication and it is ok to test this while making sure you have an antihistamine on hand. Usually, if itching subsides and does not reappear consistently, you are in the clear.

When testing any potential reaction to medicine it is best to do it when you have no other illness brewing so make sure you are not simply coming down with a cold or something. x

"so we'll see what happens when I speak to the doctor I'm going back to"

      LOL

Yes...it is wonderful to be given no attention or consideration for an entire 15 minute visit to a psychiatrist. I spend longer in consultation with a hairdresser - clearly hair requires more care than our mental health. Priceless.

Exactly! lol The psychiatrist that I had for years always took her time with patients. It was stupid to go to a new doctor just because he's closer. The appointment was so rushed, yet it was supposed to be an evaluation. Then to top it all of, he completely changed my meds which left me to go off them cold turkey, then try to get on the ones he dished out. I call about a possible bad reaction, and the med is stopped, but not replaced. My head is spinning wondering how he became a doctor. lol

Sorry...he changed your medicine after a 15 minute review? Was this following a suicide attempt/psychotic break  or severe reaction to prior med? Severe health issues caused by prior med?

No psychotic break, I just wanted to go to a psychiatrist that was much closer to me. The assessment appointment was supposed to be an hour, so when that didn't happen, it definitely threw up red flags. He doesn't write prescriptions out, only faxes them over to the pharmacy. Any questions or problems with them are handled by his staff, which are primarily in their 20's. No return call from the doctor at all.

I went back to my regular psychiatrist, and haven't bothered with the new one again.

I'm still itchy from time to time, so it wasn't the Ativan, but I didn't take it again. I'm thinking anxiety/stress and lack of sleep has been the biggest culprit, plus allergies are kicking my butt.
