Anxiety is ruining my life

It started about a year ago. I was dealing was going through a bad patch and hadn't eaten for about 3 days. Walking to work I started feeling dizzy and nearly passed out and it absolutely terrified me. Since then I kept getting light headed all the time. I went to the doctor and she told me my blood pressure was slightly low and to keep hydrated. I've been doing that but it keeps getting worse. I hate the feeling and worry about feeling lightheaded and faint when I go anywhere. If I know I'm going somewhere where I can't sit if I need to or go home straight away I worry and panic. I had a panic attack in work the other day and felt like I was going to pass out and couldn't breathe. As soon as I got in my car to go home I felt fine. It's got to the point I don't want to leave my house. I hate the thought of going shopping, for meals or nights out because I'm scared of this feeling and feel it brings on panic attacks. I still get the feeling even when I'm at home but it's not as bad as being in public. It's ruining my life, I want to travel so badly but am scared. It sounds so silly but the faint and light headed feeling really frightens me and I get it on a daily basis. I've had to leave work and family meals because of this. I don't really talk to anyone about it and have a doctors appointment booked for next week. I'm so scared this is never going to go away. Please help.

    Ruby,

I understand what you're going through. I started getting panic attacks this year with a racing heart and lightheadedness.    If your blood pressure is a little low, like your doctor said, stay hydrated. Drink a lot of water.

As far as the panic attacks go, remember anxiety and panic is hard  to overcome  on our own.  What really helped me was speaking with a counselor who deals with anxiety. They see this on a daily basis and can really help! I keep going even when I start to feel better because it's like a lifeline for me. It really helps to vent to someone else. They  have the tools to help you.

another thing that really helped me was listening to meditative audios on positive affirmations and anxiety. You can find them on YouTube. I listen several times a day and when I lay down to go to sleep it really helps!  The more you listen to the positive affirmations the more your mind believes they are true and your life starts to change.

I really hope you start to feel better soon.

Talking about it is the best think you can start with... all my family knows my problems and can tell when my anxiety is acting up.. everyone's sportive... that being said it is still a really bad feeling.. good luck! When you go to your doctor make sure you talk to them about anxiety/panic attacks.. hopefully they can help you!

Thanks for your advice! I've got an appointment booked in a few days so hoping I can get some help and I'm definitely going to give the audios a try. Thank you!

I get this too and it stopped me from going out but the problem with that is your letting it win and the more u run home the harder it is to get out so now I do this... I go out ... yep I'm dizzy ohhh no I'm going to faint... run home!!!! Then I think meh no not going to faint! Never have! Ignore the feeling it will pass and won't hurt me! And continue

I was diagnosed with anxiety 8 months ago and its been a living hell. Lately I have been feeling the same way as you and I hate it. I just got a new job and Im am scared anxiety is going to ruin my dream. I had a anxiety attack friday and had to call the ambulance. Lightheaded, shortness of breath, numbness, sweaty palms, blood pressure 170/100 but my blood work was fine, and my ekg was normal. I hate this but the lightheadedness has been daily and I hate it.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in this. I do try to tell myself that nothing bad is going to happen and it's just anxiety etc but it doesn't seem to help and the longer I stay out the worse it gets.

Thanks for all of your advice. Since having a panic attack around a week ago and not being able to breathe im constantly thinking about breathing and can't breathe naturally. Particularly frustrating at night when trying to sleep, has anyone else experience this? I've also had diarrhoea and bad stomach pains after bowel movements for about a month now. Could this also be linked to anxiety?

You have an appointment with your GP next week so it may be advisable that you make a list of all your concerns and you can either give your GP the list or work through it together. It will help to extend the appointment in the given time and hopefully you will gain more understanding of your needs.

There are treatment plans and coping skills that may help. Your GP may arrange some medication and a course of CBT to help you. Your CPN will help you cope with your Anxiety.

You could try Relaxation Technique, MINDFULNESS and Breathing Exercises, both are explained in Related Infromation below
