So to be short...Im a huge hipochondyac...In the past i've connected myself with a dozen cancers...Brain Tumor , heart problems(i had ECG and ultrasound at the best cardiovascullar private hospital at the country ) , Lung , bone , bowel , skin , i've done CT to my brain , a dozens of blood works , gerd test (only positive think with GERD but doctor said its not so serious some life changes only) and now im convinced i have spinal cord cancer..I called my doctor and he said that i shouldnt stop with my treatment perscribed by my psychiatrist and that if there is anything wrong with my body blood test would definitely tell that , but in my case they are great and she said that all of my organs are just fine...I wanted another CT to my whole body but she said that there is no need to expose myself to X-rays so much and after the holidays im going again to psychiatrist...I also have lumbs on my back and bone leg pain , but she said that could be genes as my mother had a lot of lumbs all over her body untill she gave birth..And now im facing with huge health anxiety...Do you think its something serious...Should i made an appointment for CT to my whole body...Thanks

    Kire,

I'm genuinely so sorry for all the medical health issues and events you've been going through. It's hard. To be a hypochondriac, I can somewhat self relate. After being diagnosed with cancer and then when I was done and in remission, I thought everyone was an idiot, that they just don't get it and that I know my body and there is still something else terribly wrong with me. Still to this day I'm having extreme pain and issues. My only advice on how to move forward is to continue to work with your psychiatrist and also try to find the best therapist for you as they will work with you on any and all issues more in-depth than any other doctor. Also if you truly are feeling something else is wrong and you know it, don't second guess your self or write it off as just because of hypochondriacism. Do follow up with any nessesary doctor (s) because you know what, it is truly better to be safe rather than regret not going and have something happen to you. Best of wishes in your time of need God bless you.

I’m sorry you are feeling like this and have no relief, I also tend to have these feelings but toward my heart. Have you ever asked the dr to show you the results of your scans and blood work? I found that physically seeing the results helps me understand better and helps reduce the anxiety. I do not think it is necessary to make another appointment because everything has come back fine previously, but would suggest asking for further help in understanding, how to work through this, and even more extensive therapy. Our brains are capable of so much and can induce such great distress of thoughts are negative

Well the good news is that you've had a lot more tests done to you than most people and they've all come back good. So you now have evidence that you are very healthy. It is sometimes useful to have tests done just for reassurance and if you can afford it, do it. But I suspect your anxiety will just think up some other 'thing' that's wrong with you because that is what anxiety is like. As a bit of a hydrochondiac myself, and having had many tests in the past, my experience is that the list of possible things 'wrong' with you is endless and pointless. Rather than tackling these imagined illnesses it might be better to directly tackle the anxiety. Anxiety, as you probably know, is very uncomfortable but it cannot cause you any harm at all.
