Anyone else out there approaching 70 and still fighting?

I am sixty eight in a couple of months, also disabled, If I was in a round about way stop worrying you are getting old I would be really peeved, and I would tell him that. Sometimes a GP may say something in as a joke.

I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 and my treatment has not been restricted, I have had various treatments and courses on how to live with my new illness.

Do you need further medications, something that you have taken in the past last time when ill, it may be you need  further medications

Your GP is in Partnership with you still when it comes down to health concerns. Discuss your problems again with your GP

Still fighting after 60 years. I think the only thing we can do is try to manage this the best we can. We have suffered for a long time and no one can truly understand what it’s like.  It has affected my entire life and I am sure yours as well.

The only things I know to do are:

    get regular, daily exercise

eat healthy to build immune system

listen to meditations on you tube for anxiety, breathing, etc

    be active and social

If I feel anxious, I immediately reduce it with meditation, then I don’t overreact to it, but I take a matter of fact attitude.

It’s a nasty thing to have so I’m doing the best I can.  It’s never perfect.

Hope you feel better soon ??🙂

Borderriever, and Jan, many thanks both, Borderriever? All doctors i'v seen throught out my life prescribed antidepressants, I'm not depressed, I'm anxious! Big difference, only Benzo diazapians like Diazepam work for me! But they won't prescribe it! Even a word renowned professor LEPPING German said nothing he can do! Jan, hi I exercise everyday, interact meditate you name it! But at the end of the day comes the boggy man, night when I was abused by my MOTHER AND SEXUALY BY?????  I can access my brain but it will not let those images through. Take care.

No matter how old you are, or the problems you had in the past you will need help. Age should not come into any treatment plan, you need help so you look for ways that will help you move on

Various forms of CBT deal with sexual abuse, so there is no reason why your Health Professionals will not deal with your problems.

In various towns and cities in the UK we can approach services without the needs of going through your GP Surgery. In our area, we have a service called Talking Matters they deal in confidence with your problems. If you do suggest that your GP is best not notified they will follow your instructions and follow instructions. I do not know if there are services like that where you live, you can find out however at your GP Surgery or Social Services.

Sometimes Mental Health Charities run befriending services, they can sometimes offer a restricted CBT Service, generally around six sessions, again you can find out if these day centres are  in your area where support can be given. If it was me I would look for different services that can help you.

You may also find other charities like MIND can help and advise how to address your concerns as a Senior Patient.

My early days were not the best, and were very suspect, I had extensive treatment and now I understand Age should not be a problem. However if push comes to shove you could go Private for a course of treatment. Sometimes even GPs can purchase treatment on a private basis if urgency is required

Yes, once over 65 feel they have disposed of trying to help me. Nothing has worked for anxiety.  Where are we meant to turn now?

Ann,  I know what you mean.    Seems as though it really is up to us. I try to stay busy because one I am idle, I think too much and the anxiety takes over. I find it helpful to do something for somebody else because that takes the focus off of myself. Even if I have some symptoms of anxiety, I keep going because once I start feeling sorry for myself, it takes over.

Frederick,  keep in mind that even if you feel like you’re not to depressed , anxiety and depression most often go hand-in-hand. Especially with what happened in your past.

Anti-depressants don’t work for me either, but after years and years and years of severe anxiety, I’m sure that I am also  depressed. Just haven’t been aware of it.

Benzodiazepines temporarily work great for anxiety, but the underlying depression is what causes the continuous feeling of feeling poorly.

Dont know the answer except take one day at a time ??👍😁

Hi Jan, i'v gone back to work part time, need the money, another worry! I'v worked with elderly, disabled, nursing assistant for 30 years, brilliant job! Problem i'v got is severe muscle cramps and spasms in my torso, I have to be careful how I sit stand bend move at all, again GP and HOSPITAL have washed their hands! Funny how the cramps started when they started taking the Diazepam away! I'm absolutely disgusted with the NHS, never thought I'd say that.
