Anxiety leading to migraine and vomiting! Help

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am a student nurse in my final year and started a placement at beginning of jan.

1st day - random migraine

2nd day - anxiety about migraine leading to vomiting and nausea within 30 mins of getting on ward

3rd day - same as day 2

And 4th day I vomited within 20 mins of getting on ward!

This has lead to me feeling ill when I even get near hospital, and then developed into when i get on a bus in London and now I am feeling nauseous even being in London for a day (family home in Sussex)

I have now missed the rest of my placement (9 weeks) and I've now got to face a 23 week placement in the sane hospital and I can't sleep, feeling extremely worried and just do not know what to do!

I'm on propranolol 120 mg a day.

Pleaseeeeee can someone give done advise I can't ruin my career before it's even started! Xxx

Thanks for your reply... I started the propanolol about a week after the vomiting started... But I don't seem to be benefitting from it as I feel the same as before.

It sounds very much anxiety-related and the sort of thing that many probationioner nurses go through when faced with the stress of their first placement.

As someone with medical training you should already know what you have to do, which is to go and talk it out with your doctor. That is what they are for.

Incidentally, you should already know that some of the side effects that you  are complaining of are associated with Propranol.

Having said this, you are not on a particularly high daily dose.

Please go and see your doctor.

Thanks for your reply. This is not my first placement which is why I'm confused about the onset of this anxiety. It's my 6th placement as I'm in my final year. And I've never had this issue before.

I started propanolol after the vomitting episodes but it doesn't seem to be helping.. The migraines, vomiting and nausea are not a result of propanolol which is why I'm concerned as the cause seems to be more psychological.

I've spoken to my GP, mental health and wellbeing advisers but honestly I feel like nothing is improving. And I'm very worried that this will prevent me from graduating this year.
