Anxiety medication

Hi guys just been to see my gp as had an off few weeks feeling edgy all time but not having panic attacks..

He's gave me promethazine hydrochloride an antihistamine to take 10mg three times a day as needed to take the edge off and relax me..

Just wondering if anyone has had this med before and your thoughts and experiences on it

?

Thanks Shane

Hi Shane, never heard of that being prescribed but guess your GP doesn't consider your symptoms to be "anxiety" just edginess as you say.

Sounds better than a benzo though, so may be a good way to feel more relaxed.

I am on 40mg of fluoxetine for about 4 months now and although they have lifted my mood and seem to have reduced the panic attacks I find my self really edgy and nervous in certain situations where I used to have panic attacks before.

It's like I'm waitin and expecting a panic attack to happen but it doesn't but I cannot relax in these situations if that makes sense

Promethazine is actually very good for anxiety disorders, the main side effect is that it makes people sleepy.

It's actually working quite well for me at the moment.. I wouldn't say I was sleepy but sure has knocked the edge off the anxiety and edgyNess. Tops up the flux up nicely when I need it

I have some but haven't tried it.  I didn't realize it was an antihistamine until I researched it. I take a prescription nasal antihistamine and a nasal steroid because pills like Zyrtec severely dry me out to the point my sinuses feel like they are full of glue.  I didn't want the blocked sinus feeling so I haven't tried them.

Ive read many reviews saying the drowsiness wasn't tolerable.

I read reviews on it and was very sceptical at first but I've taken 1 yesterday and one before work today and feel a lot more calmer and my mind is clearer. It's removed the edgy feeling I have and always expecting my next panic attack
