Anxiety or Heart problem?

Hello everyone, new here, i've been struggling with anxiety for about 5 years now and its been an uphill battle. some days good, some days not, over the past few months i've been experiencing heart palpitations, or so i think? Is there anything else that mimics heart palpitations but isn't? it's around the area where my heart is located, dead center of my chest, where my esophagus is (starting to think its my esophagus) i recently went to the ER because i was having an irregular heartbeat (Not sure if that was caused by anxiety) and blood/heart enzymes came back normal. I guess my question is, can it be anything other than heart palpitations? It'll beat normally then feels like it'll stop for about 1-2 beats.. then the next one will be hard. can this be a similar feeling to , say, your esophagus opening/closing? i sometimes can feel food stuck in my throat and its semi-harder to breathe. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

Feeling of something in throat = anxiety

    Irregular heartbeat = anxiety

Hard time breathing or feeling of oxygen not satisfying you = anxiety

Not painful at all = anxiety

I'm sorry but I don't think you have a heart problem

You may have a short lived arrhythmia from stress and constantly worrying and anxiety but it will go away along with the palpitations

I am in the same boat as you right now but I've gotten better

Did your doctor not comment on your palpitations or any concerns you have?

The more it bothers you the longer it will last

Took me a month of constantly thinking about my heart waiting for an echo to realize this

I still worry sometimes as I'm still waiting on an echo but I'm almost certain that it just goes away on good day or it's not as bad it must be my panic disorder and hypochondria causing pshyical symptoms

If you have any more questions I would love to help, but again I'm 99.5% sure this is all anxiety causing you this discomfort

i dont know if anything can mimic palpitations but i started having them really bad  in march to the extent where i had them for about two hours i thought my heart was going to wear out! I had all the tests conceivable and they were ok i was then put on propanolol for them (i was also going through anxiety and depression, then to top it all I am peri-menopausal  which causes palpitations. according to my gp everyone has skipped heart beats now and again but do not realise it for some reason when we or anyone going through anxiety or we worry they become more prominent. I got to the stage where i was continually checking my pulse so please do not worry too much have you spoke with your gp? that would be a good start let us know how you get on everyone on this page is very supportive

Thankyou for all the replies! I probably should have explained my situation a little more... My GP is aware of my anxiety and prescribed me propranolol. they help with the palpitations/over worry since they make me tired. when i do feel one that tries to happen, i guess the meds wont let the palpitation continue so it kinda leaves it at a "mild flutter" for about 1-2 beats then back to normal. I do smoke cigarettes (currently quitting), i'm cutting all caffeine and trying to eat better. When its not one thing it's always another.. thats the thing with anxiety rolleyes It's a never ending cycle, when one symptom is gone another will always resurface. I just want to feel completely healthy for once in my life.

thats it with anxiety its not just one symptom its a multitude of symptoms you are right to cut down on the caffeine I dont  know about smoking as I dont smoke but if you can drink chamomile tea two -three times a day especially one before bedtime it is very effective and herbal take care and keep on here for support it has been a godsend for me the last few months

I will definitely check out the natural way as well. Thankyou for that suggestion. I'm willing to do pretty much anything not to feel like this. and it's even more frustrating when no one you know in your life knows what you're going through, they always say "You just need to relax" Or "stop thinking like that" I WISH it was that easy. I wish there was a switch in my brain that i could turn off when i dont want to feel anxious or scared or depressed. This has been a battle for over 5 years now and it's recently taking a toll on me. I'm only 21 years old as well so it's not normal to constantly be feeling like i'm going to drop dead of some heart problem or incurable disease...
