so im a 37 year old man. pretty fit no underlying issues, im terrified of death and i dont know why but it scares me and makes me feel awful.
about a month ago watching some tv i started to think about death no idea why but i did and before i knew what was going on and out of nothing i felt like i was going to die. heart pounding, sweating, tingles in hands and pounding head. this lasted about 10 mins after i felt shattered since then ive had one more of these episodes about 3 weeks ago. i also struggled to get to sleep for about a week after this attack i had a feeling of doom in my chest and just couldnt sleep. since all this happened ive had sore ribs bloating and acid reflux. so some questions from me if someone could help. have i had a panic/anxiety attack?? has anyone else suffered with the after effects been stomach issues. sorry for the long post but any help would be appriciated.

yes Paul it sounds like you have had an anxiety panic attack because of your fear of death. this type of thing is very common in people who have anxiety. What happens is that your fear builds up in your mind which sends a signal to your brain that something is wrong and that you are in danger. Even though you are not in danger that is the way your brain perceives it. So the brain sends messages to " get you ready for battle ".adrenaline is released which causes the pounding heart, sweating, tingles, pounding head.your brain doesn’t know the difference between really being in danger or perceived danger. It just prepares you to protect yourself
Yes, I have had really terrible stomach issues because of all my fears, which caused stress and physical illness. I had several years of gastritis which is very painful in the stomach due to my anxiety and stress. I had to go on medication for that. There is a very strong connection between the Brain and the stomach. When the brain is distressed so is the stomach and intestines. That’s why we hear of people who get ulcers who are under a lot of stress. The body is definitely affected in a negative way from stress.
So basically in order to prevent all of this it’s a good idea to change your way of thinking which creates that fear.
Remember that whatever we focus on will grow much larger. So that fear is it going to get even larger if you keep entertaining the thought.
You are terrifying yourself about death. For me it’s easier just to relax and tell myself that yes one day I’m going to die nobody gets out of it. It actually does make me more relaxed about it. When you try to fight something off it gets worse.
you are most likely very healthy and will have many many years ahead of you. Don’t waste your time by worrying about the future that doesn’t even exist at this time. When you do that, you don’t enjoy the present moment which is right now. We give up precious time in our life to spend it worrying. It’s really a waste.
if this is really affecting your life, I would highly suggest getting some counseling for this. It’s a miserable way to live and I have been through that for many years. I finally let it go because it was ruining the life that I had.
Another thing that really helped me a lot is my faith. it gives me a sense of peace and calm .
enjoy The present moment! Think of what you are grateful for each and every day. Look around and take in the beauty of nature, the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors. Don’t let all of this pass you by because of fear. get some support! Take care of your health with a healthy diet, exercise, smile, laugh! Enjoy your life! Message me anytime and take care. ❤
