Anxiety? Perimenopause? Both? Overwhelming Physical Symptoms.

So....I'll try to be brief. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder last March, after suffering a panic attack while traveling for business. Since then, I've had a multitude of daily physical symptoms...dizziness/lightheadedness, body aches, headaches, insomnia, night sweats, increased body temperature, feeling weak in my limbs, general fatigue, shakiness....you name it, I've had it. I've just about worn out my welcome at my GP's office, I've been there so often....I've been to the emergency room four times, had an MRI, multiple ECGs, countless rounds of bloodwork, an upper endoscopy...everything comes back clear. So why do I feel so sick all the time? I did have my hormone levels checked, and my doctor confirmed that I'm at least perimenopausal (I'm 45 years old)....could all of these symptoms (and truly, they occur daily) be related to perimeopause? I've developed a serious issue wtih health anxiety due to all of this, because I can't accept that these symptoms are harmless...I'm convinced that something catastrophic is wrong with me. Help!!!

Hello
I've just found this discussion and I hope this has answered my question as to what is wrong with me. I'm 51 and although I still have regular periods they are much shorter than they used to be (1-2 days) so I assume I must be in the perimenopause. I've been OK until this year when the first thing I noticed was regular disturbing dreams - so I wake up exhausted and feel rough all day.
Up until this year I've always been a 'cold' person and really enjoyed summer heat. Now I can't take it! I don't have hot flushes as such, but often feel too hot and my skin is hot to the touch.
The worst symptom for me is anxiety. At the moment it's a daily occurence - and for no reason. I can feel that I'm producing unnecessary adrenaline and worrying about things that wouldn't have bothered me before, or just feeling anxious over nothing.
The one thing which I haven't seen anyone else post about is lack of appetite and weight loss. I've lost a stone and a half this year (which is no bad thing) but my appetite is poor and I can only manage small portions.
Like others, I have been wondering if there is something seriously wrong, but I am now wondering if all this can be linked to the hormonal changes of the menopause?
Any advice welcomed Thanks

I am doing this same thing. I am 47 years old and went through some major trauma the past year. Son got incarcerated for drugs,my 14 year old daugher got diagnosed with a kidney diseas, house burned partially down, spouce has heart trouble and I try to run a business. I hav e always stayed optimistic until all this happened and I have dizzy spells, thoughts of staying sick all the time. The "something is wrong with me but I don't know what" symptoms. I have painful periods, and never did. They are about 24 days apart now.
I feel like everyone else doesn't have fear and anxiety. I worry constantly about something is wrong with me. I am so fearful I won't harldy drive anywhere due to attacks of dizziness and panic. I went to a psy. dr and he put on on the lopwest doage of xanax. I am afraid to take something in fear I may good "hooked". Does anyone else have any advice for someone feeling like the workd is leaving them behind?

Hi I have had something simular going on. I have this awful pain under my books and in the middle sometimes after I eat. I've been in and out of hospital after I had a bleed in the bowel. Anyway to cut a long story short I've had extensive tests done, bloods etc have all come back NORMAL. I've had anxiety since I was 16 years old. I am now 41 years old. I bleed for 12 days of each month and very heavy. I see my gynaecology and he has put me on a tab I take for 7 days of my period I think it is supposed to lighten it or make it shorter which it hasn't. I was back with his yesterday and he said he will leave things up to me when I want to go back as he thinks I have alot going on with the bowel and I have hypothyroidism. I've started to get these horrible seats where I'm sweating all the time and I sweat more even if I walk upstairs or to my kitchen. I'm miserable and don't know what to do. I woke in a pool of sweat this morning dead late but it's the first nights sleep I've had for months. Imy sick of feeling like this and I feel everyone thinks it's in my head. When I say it to them they say no I don't think it's in your head but I think anxiety and stress are a big part of my symptoms. I feel your pain with all the normal tests it's so annoying. Xx

Hi WearyKitty!
I just found your post by googling a question and I am so relieved to read your post. I have had similar thoughts and concerns. I have had anxiety for many years and was worried that it was just going through the roof. I was also on medication and had been getting panic attacks. I also am raising two young kids and decided to stop working for a time earlier this year. I had an EKG because of the palpitations, then switched to an internist who also thought it was the anxiety. As I've had more time to actually think about my symptoms rather than simply pushing through merely to get through each day, I am coming to realize it's perimenopause. I have other physical symptoms like dryness and period slowing down. I stopped my anxiety medication to rule out the medication as a cause. The hot flashes have gotten a bit less sweaty, but they remain securely in place. While I wouldn't say that I'm thrilled that it sounding like perimenopause for me too, I am comforted that there's a very known explanation for this he way I've been feeling for the past year. I'm making an appointment to see my internist again to check my hormone levels.
