My question is is this dry cough thing another anxiety Symtoms or something serious?? Hi guys,
So reassuring reading your thread. I'm new to all this; I'm from the UK by the way. Seeing a neurologist in the morning because I'd convinced myself I've a neurological degenerative disease because of the tightness in throat, constant need to try to clear it, feeling like want to cough but when I do, nothing happens/it feels worse. I feel like there is some phlegm there or something. Just 'balanced' at the top of my trachea where I can't cough it up! Really adds to general panic. I also had a 'vibrating' sensation on the inside, as if constantly in fight or flight mode and literally pounding heart, high alert state the whole time. It's absolutely exhausting. I can't believe only a couple of months ago I was 'normal' but didn't appreciate it! But now I'd give anything to be normal again.
I'm really comforted to hear that tight sensation in throats and feeling like something is lodged there is 'normal' for health anxiety. Helps me accept that it's health anxiety not actual choking! Do either of younexperirnce a 'sunburn' sensation on your face/lips ever...? No redness, just burning feeling from time to time.
Have you guys tried CBT? I've found a Christian therapist (I'm not heavily into religion, but do believe in god, so feel any 'mind' treatment needs to be sympathetic to that, if that makes sense?) and I start in the NEw year. But I've read lots of posts on here about people suffering for years with Health Anxiety. So I want to ask 'can you be cured...' but too scared to in case I don't like the answer!
Bet perhaps all those who have been cured/no longer suffer have no desire to come back on here because they want to forget and are worried about re-igniting the health anxiety flame. (I'm Overthinking!!!)
I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's so comforting to know I'm not alone. But I'm also sorry to have read both your tough stories.

Hi Jojo,
Are your main symptoms the throat tightness and constantly needing to clear it? Does it feel like a choking sensation as if someone is pushing on it? I'm confused to why you're seeing a neurologist for that though. I'm not sure I understand the connection between your symptoms and a neurologist?
How long have you had your symptoms? Do you ever get relief or is it constant? I can say for me the choking sensation I had lasted 2 weeks straight it was constant, but literally subsided when I realized it was from anxiety. Look up globus hystericus anxiety. If you believe these sensations are coming from anxiety then there are exercises you can do to help this. Just search on YouTube globes hystericus exercises. You will need to keep doing them, but basically what happens when we are anxious and stressed our body tenses. The muscles in the neck and throat also get tense and create those sensations.
Also, another cause for your discomfort could be from acid reflux as well. Those are also common symptoms from people who suffer from Silent reflux. If you don't think your symptoms are coming from anxiety then I'd suggest seeing an ENT.
If you are truly suffering from anxiety you absolutely can and will be cured. It's really mind over matter (which is not as easy as it sounds or we wouldn't all be here suffering). Therapy and meds should help, but it takes the right fit that works for you.
Anxiety can cause havoc for our bodies it's horrible.

And if when the cough started if you ẃere very anxious at that time it could be that it has become a habit.
However do please go and see your G P if it puts your mind at ease.
You could also look on the net for some extra coping skills. There are so many for lots of different symptoms.
Good luck and let us know how you get on xx
