Hyperthyroidism is an over active thyroid it's more for apatite and energy levels sertraline is a serotonin anti depressant it belongs to a group called zoloft it's used to help you sleep aswell as depression ect but it will make you worse if you are feeling tired on them already you'll get worse your doctor should give you medication for your thyroid if he thinks you need it x

    John,

I know how you feel, as do most people on this site. Remember that everyone’s experience is different with sertraline. This is second time taking it. Both times it took me 2-3 months for it to completely settle in my system.  And this was with the help of Clonazepam (Klonipin). This time around after about a month and a half the psychiatrist added Trazadone 50 mg. Groggy in mornings at first and a little muscle aches but now after two weeks I’m beginning to feel normalcy. So I take 50 mg Sertraline in the morning and .75 Clonazepam and 50 mg Trazadone at bedtime.   I take these meds for panic disorder and irregular contractions of my esophagus. Really is making a difference.

The thyroid can really throw your body out of whack. Hopefully treating  it will help bring everything back into balance.

Hope this helped. All the best. Be strong and hang in there.

    KK

Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve but if your too tired you'll only get worse trust me

I would the encroligist put me on them I've had it on and off for 7years my bloods have been within range now for almost a year you'll have to have bloods done regular to get you on the right dose once your on it things will settle down I'm sure I'm a very anxious person any way but getting there give the sertraline time it can always be increased I'd rather pop some tablets than feel like I did but your anxiety may be caused by your thyroid google graves disease for symptoms x

    Hi ,

i am the same. I have been on sertraline for 6 weeks. I suffered a lot of side effects the first 3 weeks. I was diagnosed with a goitre and nodules on my thyroid and put on Carbimazole 5mg 4 days ago. Waiting for a biopsy. I always feel nauseous but I don’t know which medications is the culprit. I do feel more able to cope with the sertraline but it is a slow working drug. Hang on in there.
