Anxiety symptoms after eating

Hi. I was wondering if anyone else has anxiety symptoms after eating.
I have been diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder but I think more than that I have some sort of digestive disorder. Often after eating my heart races, my stomach bloats and I sometimes feel a bit breathless. This is enough to make anyone feel anxious The doctors have always said there is no connection. I have been experiencing this for many years and keep getting fobbed off by the medical world telling me that it is just anxiety.
It has affected my life enormously, leading to becoming housebound for days, sometimes weeks on end.

Well Sue, I am having all them experiences and more, I took 2 lorazopams and it barely did anything so I thought I would google this and found your post, I really don't understand what's going on and it makes my anxiety ten times worse, I've told my Dr's when I eat my side bloats then my whole abdomen bloats up, my heart starts racing which causes me to panic, I feel faint, dizzy, anxious, my Dr checked my side, xrays and more, only to tell me nothings there, it takes my anxiety to a different level of fear, I don't want to go outside if the sun is out, feel like I'm going to float away up into the sky (not even sure what that's about but it's creepy) and I to become home bound, this has been going on since November, I'm a very active athletic person and I can't go for walks, or to the gym it's horrible I love being outside but I hide under the covers while this is going on, have you found any help or releif???

Do you actually have gas when you feel bloated? Even if you don't, bloating feeling could be inflammation in your gut caused by your gut reacting to something you ate. See my other posts in this thread, if anxiety symptoms happen after eating, problem's with the food, not in your head.

Hi Sue,
?Im sorry you are going through this. A lot of what you are saying sounds like its related to the diaphragm. Upwards pressure of the organs against the diaphragm, the muscle that stretches across the solar plexus and makes your lungs breathe. An actual hiatal hernia is where the top of the stomach pushes through the diaphragm, and you probably dont have that. But many people, especiall if you are a bit heavy in the core will have that pressure against the diaphragm. A good chiropractor or masseuse can massage that area (causing you to belch a lot), and help the organs settle down. I myself have had problems with this and know many others. If it gets bad its quite uncomfortable, and yes anxiety producing. Other than that the best thing you can do is eat smaller meals, and take a walk right after eating. Sittng just bunches everything up.
?Its a fact, anxiety causes digestive problems and digestive problems cause anxiety. I would try eating less and taking a walk and see if that helps. I think it will.
?Feel better.

It is more than likely GMO causing all of your problems. I get atrial fibrillation after some foods and it is not MSG. I only eat fresh fruit, veg and some meat and seafood and I am feeling so much better. GMO is making people sick.

I may have the same thing...I noticed I get palpitations when I eat food with a lot of sodium...not sure if that's what it is, but I had one today just after eating lunch.

I thought I was the only person who experience this. My wife also thinks I have undiagnosed IBS!!!
Reading this thread finally normalizes me!
If I eat a lot of food I end up feeling almost sick with anxiety. I have actually restricted my diet to veganism because of this.
The worst for me was pizza. No food messed me up like pizza.

Hello Sue. I have the exact same symptoms and experiences with hospitals.
I'm still trying to understand what's going on.
Any improvements, changes?

I have anxiety issues when I eat, too. I believe they are psychological based on poor food eating habits in the past. Have you ever ate out of frustration or used food as a crutch? I think the devil uses anxiety to make us feel guilty even if we are eating normally. Try to relax, eat well, and hand it over to God. Say the Chaplet of Divine Mercy before you eat. You can find it online. Bloating, heart racing and feeling breathless are symptoms of anxiety. They'll go away as you relax more, knowing you are not alone and that there is HOPE. Get rid of foods you like too much and eat things like cereal, fruit, cranberry juice, water. Coffee is okay in moderation. Of course, meat, bread and veggies are good, too. But eat ones you are not partial to at first. LIsten to EWTN on TV when you eat and "cast your fears upon the Lord!" He will help you.
I also eat foods I do not particularly care for often. It's a form of reparation. That has also helped me. I've had anxiety now for several months, but my doctor gave me medication. Also, Melatonin helps and it's an over-the-counter med without side effects. It helps me calm down. Do not become housebound. It is better to stay busy, especially helping others. I help out in a nursing home among other projects. Anxiety symptoms after eating are NOT a digestive disorder, but a spiritual disorder. Satan uses anxiety and fear to get us to sin in other ways. In other words, it can be a means to an end (sin.). Relax, eat normally, get the meds and I think you'll be fine. Also, be sure you drink enough fluids (64 oz. a day).

Hi Sue! The same thing happens to me when I eat something particularly heavy. For example, I ate a large chocolate bar yesterday, and afterwards, my heart rate was up, I was short of breath, and I felt very tired. I think that it could be anxiety, maybe because you're feeling unfamiliar sensations that are causing your mind to race. I have an anxiety disorder as well.

Hi sue92125,
I have exactly what you're describing. Sometime I think that maybe it's my heart. Have you been to a cardiologist? Please keep me posted . I have an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow. Take care. Hope they find what is causing this. I am tired of feeling like this practically after every time I eat.
