Anxiety/tense muscles after stopping HRT

Anyone have experience with muscle tension in your legs when stopping HRT? I was weaning off HRT over the past year due to dizziness, then stopped completely 4 weeks ago. Dizziness is much less, but I have had intermittent bouts of HORRIBLE anxiety and a sense of tightness and "wobbly" feeling in my legs, almost as if they feel weak or do not move as they used to? Not sure if the anxiety is causing this? (Brain scans are normal). Anyone ever have this feeling with hormonal imbalance? How long did it last? Anything you did to help it go away? (Not going back on HRT due to cancer risks; hit 60 years old this year and been taking HRT for 5 years). Thanks!

    Good morning Elizabeth,

sorry to hear about your problems, old age perhaps!

I have been on Hrt for 28 years now My doctor took me off them a couple of years ago and I was fine for a month and then all hell broke loose The flushes returned and my nerves went My 2 grandchildren were visiting from London and managed to reduce me to tears . I FELT OLD and no longer my old self Back to my GP Prescribed patches instead if my KLIOVANCE A disaster . ACHING pains in my buttocks, could hardly climb the stairs, incapable of finding the energy or inclination to do anything. BACK TO GP. Pertinent questions were asked to rule out any other underlying ailments and I was allowed to start back on my KLIOVANCE again

I Celebrated my 70th birthday in NOVEMBER and plan to continue on my HRT

You must decide for yourself if the fear of cancer is worth altering the quality of your everyday life when taking your HRT

Is there a history of cancer in your own family? SPEAK WITH YOUR GP. Weigh up your options MY FRIEND IS NEARLY 80 and she wouldn't give up her HRT for anything

i sincerely hope you are feeling well again soon

Hello Grannyrose! THANK YOU so much for the quick and long reply to my post last night. It was great to read it this morning! I have been through so much this past year with trying to wean off my oral estrogen and progesterone, stopped synthetic pills and switched to bio-identical, but the dizziness that started after the first month of weaning VERY slowly remained even when I returned to my normal dose. Finally decided, after several adjustments with a hormone specialist, that I would just stop them altogether. Overall I am feeling 90% better off of them, the dizziness is almost gone completely, which makes me not want to mess with them again. Just frustrated with this sense of my legs feeling like they don't work right at times, not sure if I am just over focused on it now and so that is making that sensation worse? (I am such a hypochondriac that I am convinced I have MS! LOL!) Had a CAT scan and MRI of brain last year when all this started and all is normal. I don't have breast or ovarian cancer in my family, however I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia last year and I have 4 siblings who were also diagnosed with it in the past 5 years (even though they say it does not run in families!) I am currently getting treatment for it in a research study and have had an amazing response to treatment. The disease is totally managed right now (they are pretty close to a total cure for this type of leukemia and they believe the medication I am taking right now is the one that will actually knock it out completely!) However, I am not allowed to take any herbal supplements while in the study, so that limits me in managing any hormonal disruption. UGH! Other than the recent intense anxiety this week and the wobbly legs though I am doing great. Just want to get these last symptoms eliminated!!! We shall see. There is no actual aches or pains attached to my leg issues, they just feel "off", so hard to describe, I have been focusing on it and wondering if it is muscle "tension" from my stopping the hormones, and that makes my legs feel less "free" to move in their natural form...VERY odd!! Thanks again for your heartfelt reply! I LOVE this forum, hearing from other woman in this fight against old age! Doctors are often so clueless about this stuff and never really listen to the symptoms we are having!! Have a blessed day!!

    Hello again,

what a lovely message! Have you considered that the treatment you are having may he a contributing factor with your leg problem? sometimes drugs can have an adverse affect on us. Have you spoken with your treatment providers? I am sure you have but it is just a thought.

Restless legs are often caused by hormone imbalance and it may be what is happening to you.

Once you have finished your treatment, it will be easier for your doctor to diagnose the problem.

speak to a diet specialist and see if there are foods that you could add to your diet which could stop the wobbly leg feeling.

Ask to have your bloods checked too. you could be anaemic or something like that.

    So annoying for you.

    get well soon.

    Rosemary.
