Anxiety that has been debilitating, need help!

Hello all,

Almost a month ago I ended up at an urgent care center for a pain in my right side that would not go away after 10 days. At this point I will mention I had not seen a doctor in almost 25 years and I'm now 47. After some tests and an ultrasound, found out I have NASH, which is fatty liver disease that is progressed past NAFLD. More concerning was my cholesterol levels, ldl was horribly high, and hdl horribly low, and triglycerides were high. I was assessed at moderate to high risk of heart attack or stroke. I was given a statin to take for the cholesterol and a guide for eating and exercise for the liver issue. These diagnoses sent me into a tailspin and panic to make immediate changes. I gave up recreational marijuana instantly, which I had been using for 28 years daily, changed my whole diet overnight, eating nothing but healthly foods, and drinking a lot of water. Several days after doing all of this, just sitting on the couch all of a sudden I felt a tingling sensation in some of my fingers on my left hand, heart rate shot up instantly, started sweating and at one point started trembling. This went on for about an hour and then slowly all went away. Next night happened again, and by the fourth day I went back to urgent care. I thought for sure it was my heart and or heart attack. Doctor without even doing a single test said it was anxiety most likely due to withdrawl from quitting marijuana, the recent diagnoses I had received, all of the other changes I made suddenly, and stress. He prescribed Lorezapam and told me to take it when the symptoms came on. The meds seemed to work for the first week. When I ran out, I went back and got a refill and he prescribed Lexapro in addition to the benzo. Now two weeks later, today right in the middle of the day I had an anxiety attack come out of the middle of nowhere. I took my Lorezapam and within an hour had to double it. Since I have not had any tests run on my heart and am having trouble getting them to conduct any, I would like to know if anyone's anxiety mimics my symptoms.

It usually begins with light tingling in a few of my fingers on my left hand, sometimes will be accompanied by slight aching in my left upper arm, slight pain in my chest, and if it scares me enough will raise my heart rate, and will feel hot, almost like I'm fire, may sweat, even chills. Slight dizziness sometimes. No tightness in the chest, no vomiting or nausea, no fainting either.

I wouldn't wish this upon anyone, it is scary as hell, exhausting, and just can't take it any more.

Any insight, ideas, suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciated. I can't go like this much longer. Thank you!

    Hi Brian,

That is exactly how anxiety is for me.

If you smoked MJ for 28 years it's totally normal that you are getting these withdrawal symptoms but since you have had those test results I would push for some heart tests. Did they do an ecg when you went to urgent care?

Also, be very careful with benzos, they are very addictive and let me tell you, from experience, that withdrawal from those is a whole other level.

I personally would get tested, even if you have to go to urgent care and then if all is well, you could do some sport and accept that you will have these withdrawal symptoms for a while.

    Best of luck!
