Anxiety when waking

i am wondering if anyone else's Anxiety is at an all time high when they wake up and if so why this is. My anxiety or what I hope is anxiety is always the worst when I wake up in the morning. It is also worse for example when I take a nap. I have taken two naps today and both times I woke up anxiety was at an all time high and slowly gets better with being awake. My symptoms are mental confusion, anxious, numb, foreign, lost, spacey. Can I chalk this up to anxiety or something else. I have been on Citalopram for almost 6 weeks now. 20mg for a week. 40mg for 4 weeks. 30mg 1 week and now started back on 20mg. I am reducing dose because 20mg is what I felt great on for 7 years before going off cold turkey. I had similar symptoms when I withdrawled and they haven't gone away. I am improving but this is still an issue. Will this go away or should I get an a MRI to get my brain checked.

Oh indeed, I'm always bad after sleeping. I never ever take naps now - when I wake up from one I'm always very disoriented and anxious

The spacey feeling I get often, its called depersonalisation, its harmless but very common with high anxiety. Its very distressing I know but it really can't hurt you

Yes mine is worse in the morning also.. Wish I knew why too.. It makes me anxious, heart racing and dizzy.. Anyone have answers to why?

Yes, me too. Always worse first thing in the morning. This is also very common with depression (feeling worse first thing). Strangely as it gets darker in the afternoon, my anxiety reduces and in the evenings i'm anxiety free mostly. Dont know why but I suspect it is bio-chemical.

Yes Yadeed anxiety is always at it's very worst on waking up.  I used to wake up, my stomach churning, heart pumping, my muscles tight and painful.  The depersonalisation which you have wrote so often about here is also extremely common.  However you have upped and downed so much with your tablets this is going to have knock on effect also, you're gonna take a few weeks to stabilise..  It took me 10 weeks on 20mg before I saw the massive effect it has so be patient and stick to the 20 you are on now, otherwise you're really messing with the dose more.  I Know it's hard and I know how awful it can be.  It's a really scary feeling that sensation of not being here.

I thought I was the only one. Every day when I wake up I feel very anxious and am all throughout work since I work in the am, until I get home

Yes my anxiety worse in the mornings.  As you are playing around with dosage at the moment your problems could be due to that.  Withdrawals can be very bad.  I don't think an MRI scan will help, but maybe you could ask your doctor about this, as I am no expert.  I thinkj probably your feelings are due to drug.

Thank you all for your comments. I have suffered from Anxiety my entire life but I think going cold turkey on the medication definatly did something crazy. I have never felt this weird feeling in my head. Its almost 24/7. It could also be some depression as well.

I’m not sure but I do the same, anytime I would like to dose off in the day for a few minutes of sleep I always wake up scared. I would give anything if that did not happen. It would be so great to take a nap after I have spent the day working or not. This has to be anxiety and depression but the medication I’m taking is working for otherwise I feel okay until I I try and take a nap after working on my car all day or something else, BUT I cant and want do it because I wake up very SCARED…..should I see a therapist…I would do anything if this did not happen…HELP!

I wake up feeling strange. What you describe, sounds like I go through when I go to sleep and it is a horrible feeling. I feel like you said, I hope it's anxiety too. This feeling is hard to describe because I feel like nobody feel like I do when waking up very nad feeling, I did read something online and what they call it is nocturnal panic attacks. It's sounds like the closest thing I am experiencing.
