Anxious!

Hello , I have just upped my citalopram to 20mg after a week on 10mg as doctor suggested. I am very scared of effect it will have and if it will make my thoughts/anxiety any worse than they are now. Anyone out there found that 20mg is better and did the side effects get worse. Just looking for some reassurance.

I was on 20 mg some months back and receiving therapy. I felt so much better I thought I would come off citalopram. Big mistake. I went back on it a couple om months back taking 10 mg. For some reason the side effects this time round were far worse that the first time and i was only on 10 mg. The side effects got better but I felt that I wasn't quite back on form and debated with myself as to whether I should go back up to 20 mg. Part of this was real worry about those horrendous side effects. I took the risk and although my side effects returned they were entirely manageable and nothing like as bad as I thought they would be. I'm also feeling like my old self again and I'm so glad I took the risk. The trouble with any medication is that we all react differently so it would be silly for me to tell you what to do. I can only share my experience with you on here.

what process did you use to go off the meds? how long were you on it before stopping?

I was on it for years Dubry. Simply reduced it by 10mg a month. Think carefully about stopping. Took me about 3 months to realise I had made a mistake coming of it.

I think 10mg per month is yoo much too fast. Once I recover and taper off, I'm going down 2.5 mg at a time. Once you taper down a level, make sure you settle at that dosage before tspering further.

I upped from 20-30 about 10 weeks in as I seemed to be dipping really bad....agitation, detachment & anxiety were all there, tenfold, so I reckoned what else could

it do but help. I suffered minimal side effects for 3/4 days and started to feel so much better!! The fear is hard, it was with me too. I fought increasing it for 2 weeks but only made myself worse. It will come right, but time & patience is a much needed thing on your cit journey!! It's hard as hell though I know but you will get there. 😃

hi, it is recommended by good doctors to give each dose 4-6 weeks before jumping up a dose, for most people 10mg should be a starting dose, 20mg a theraputic dose, it may even take a while longer for some people for each dose to work, during this time you will have side effects, some people have only a few, others only the common side effects, the unlucky ones rare side effects like i had, by jumping too quickly might cause very intense effects, its recommended to stay on 10 untill all side effects ease, then when you go to 20 the effects are alot weaker and dont last as long, good luck
