so i told my doctor that i've been having trouble sleeping for the last 2 months and that my anxiety was severe. she suggested that i take some melatonin pills and to also call my insurance company and let them know i would like to start therapy. i really want to start therapy bc my anxiety did affect my life. i couldnt start college bc of it and i couldn't really go out bc i felt so tired all the time. but i'm just anxious about calling asking for therapy. how would i even phrase it or say i want to start therapy? what kinds of questions can i expect the first time seeing a therapist? any replies would be appreciated thank you!

Just ring up and be honest, you want to see a therapist for help with anxiety, the first session is just the therapist trying to get to know you, they want you to feel comfortable but don't expect to feel great after one session, I've seen numerous councillors and psychiatrists and I'm no where near better, but it's always good to talk to someone, hope this helps a little.

Therapy or counseling, whatever you want to call it, was the best thing I ever did. Don't waste another second wuestioning it. I have terrible anxiety and panic disorder and having someone who's studies these pathologies is a comfort to hear. It's a space of respite to retreat to. Elm your dictor you feel your anxiety is getting beyond your own ability to control and is affecting your quality of life. Tell him you feel counseling may help you and you'd like help is making the steps to get there. Leave it to the universe to match you with the right Doctor. I prefer an actual psychiatrist because they specialize is medicine too. Anxiety has haunted me and my therapy gives me the hope I need to struggle through the fear. I wish you much peace.

I feel i also need counselling as the anxiety has ruined my life lately.  The psychiatrist at nhs only gives half an hour and we talk meds.  Are youmon any?  I wonder if better to see private one for more time.

Hi just ring and ask if you can see a therapist that specialises in anxiety disorders. When you see them they only want to have an idea of how the anxiety affects you and probably about your childhood and family.Nothing too daunting. They need to figure out what treatment would be best for you so be open and honest.Trust me you will be fine

Hiya , just give them a call and explain that you suffer with anxiety and wish to start therapy and they will take it from there , they will ask right questions so dont worry about it hun xxx the main key in therapy is good therapist , expierienced . I had lady who was younger than me , had all the knowledge but she couldnt help me cause she didnt have expierience. I think the best kind of therapist is the one who suffered with similar problems. Its so hard to find good therapist , im having therapy now and again even tho lady is much older I dont feel comfortable with her , got the feeling that she doesnt give a toss. Hope you will find the right one and all the best xxxxx

Great idea trying therapy, anything that may help you understand and manage your anxiety. Just explain how bad it is and feel you need professional help. My first session years ago I babbled on trying to get everything out in an hour and apologised to therapist as I anxiously thought I was coming over so manic , she reasured me that was the whole point, get everything out, and start to work on anxiety. Great you're asking for advice here , reaching out to try and help yourself is the first step. Great people here who know how you feel, can help reasure and offer advice from there personal experiences coping with anxiety. Good luck??
