Any advice?

Hi all,

I'm a 20 year old female and I woke up to uti symptoms this morning. I've had a couple of them before. I had a uti a couple of years ago, I drank a lot of water only lasted a couple of days and that was it. In November last year I had one which was very painful. It's started over the weekend so couldn't make an appointment with the gp and by the time it was Monday it felt a lot better. However a couple days later I had to hold in my urine for a couple of hours and it came back, and was very painful and there was even a bloody tinge. I Then made an appointment for the next day and when they tested my urine it came back clear but by this point my symptoms were gone and I had drank a lot of water prior to the appointment, so I didn't have any antibiotics. I've now had my symptoms for a few hours and I've drank six bottles of water and urinated a lot to help flush out any bacteria and it feels like it is helping. Do I make an appointment tomorrow morning or is it safe to see if it gets better with home treatment for a couple of days? Thanks

Hi there, as these uti's have been recurring I would personally make a GP appointment and have your urine tested, this is what I personally did, at the same time I began taking cranberry tablets and pro biotics as well as drinking plenty, but definitely would see GP first.

Hi Phoebe, thank you for your advice. For the past hour when I've urinated I felt little to no pain at all, so I'm hoping beacause I caught it early it may just flush itself out but if I wake up with any symptoms tomorrow or they continue into this evening I will see my gp. Thank you again smile

I would go to the doctors. I have had this same problem for 15 years. And had to get a camera in my bladder to see if anything was there. They said I had prolapse and need to go to urology now to see what can be done as I always have blood and protein in my urine hopefully they will find out what's been causing this for so many years. hello Jennifer, sorry to hear about your struggles. I can barely handle having these symptoms for a few days so can't imagine what it's like to have this problem for  15 years.  I will see my gp if mine persists until tomorrow but luckily last few times I've been to the toilet it's been painless and a normal amount so hopefully it will clear up. Have any doctors mentioned intestinal cystitis? (I think that's what it's called) it's like having a Uti most of the time. I looked into it but my Utis aren't occurring enough and I think I cause them because I have a terrible habit of holding in my urine which can't be good.

thank you for your reply and I hope you feel better soon

    Hello

If you want to make another test for urine.. my advice is not to drink much water prior to that day.. and have the morning specimen for test.. because it's more concentrated.

Anyway.. it is very good what you are doing.. that what most of people should do... keep it up... I'm sure it will help.

    Good luck

All I can say, from experience, is that diluting the urine by drinking lots of water also lessens the amount of bacteria in the urine.  The result is that a true infection may not show up on dipstick or even culture.

If you are seeing visable blood in urine I would make an appoint to get in to see a GP.  The thing to remember the best way to do a urine sample is first thing in the morning when you get up because urine has been sitting in the bladder for an extended period of time.  If you are drinking a lot of water, your urine is diluted and bacteria could be hard to detect.  You might have a low grade infection or a low count of bacteria causing inflammation....but the only way to rule out and infection is having a urinalyis.......and then a culture.

Your mostly correct except for some of us, the urine is not sitting in the bladder for an extended period of time overnight.  Some of us (me) are up every two hours voiding.
