Any advice for newly diagnosed

Posted , 5 users are following.

After a year if tests I've finally been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

I also have underactive thyroid and asthma and am going through the menopause. I'm 50 years old.

I'm having trouble getting going in the morning as i feel so stiff..I have pain most of the day but it's always worse after I've sat down to rest for a while. Main pain is in my neck knees and elbows .

I am a cleaner and finding it more difficult by the day to complete my work.

I have awful nights where the pain wakes me throughout the night .

Taking amitriptyline at night but struggling to find pain relief for daytime use that doesn't make me groggy.

Any advice would be appreciated .

I am so sorry. I spent years before I was diagnosed and think I have tried almost every pain relief available. The specialist I saw at the pain clinic told me that the ONLY really effective treatment for the pain is chlorhydrate d'oxycodone, Oxycontin. I was very hesitant to try it because there are mixed revues on the internet. But I have never regretted it. I am often VERY tired, but that is a symptom of fibromalgia, and I haven't found anything to help eradicate that, But the oxycontin cerainly helps the pain without making me feel groggy and drugged, which I can't support at all. I am still stiff but I have less pain. Like you I couldn't sleep or rest in the same position without suffering excruciating pain. I have various other health problems too and that surely doesn't help the situation. I have restless leg syndome, problems with my circulation, and cramps in my legs, constant toothache even though my dentist insists my teeth are good. You are very courageous to continue with your job. I find cleaning my house very difficult now, even getting dressed (especially socks) is a major battle. I should wear compression stockings for my circulation but I can no longer put them on, it's too much effort and often too painful to have the pressure on my legs. I tried amitriptyline but I was very tired the next day with 5 drops. My doctor said I could take up to 25 drops, but I can't bear to feel dopey the day after. I still have trouble sleeping but it's better than before. If you decide to try oxycontin, you need to start with a low dose, 10 mgs. My doctor prescribed 30 mg and it was awful. I gradually increased the dose to 30 mgs after 1 month, and I have no side effects, and don't feel groggy at all. I still get days when the pain makes me cry, but it is so much better than before when I was taking 150 mgs of morphine each day and had too much pain to walk. Good luck and most of all COURAGE!! Hi Brooksie67

My Fibromyalgia symptoms are similar to yours. Try doing some active exercise as well such as long walk, cycling.

I'm no more on amytripiline and currently trying out Duxiline. I believe both don't have much effect on pain but be careful of using painkillers regularly. I seldom use co-codamol but it helps when the pain is very bad an unbearable.

I'm now planning to go for acupuncture. I believe it might help. So look for therapies to help with pain than regular pain killers.

    Hi Brooksie,

i too have fibromyalgia and asthma. I have also been diabetic for 50 years. I started to suffer with aches and pains about a year after I'd completed treatment for cancer, I assumed it was all due to the chemotherapy!!

last November I was finally diagnosed with fibro, I have since seen a herbalist who recommended I take pomegranate and turmeric. Within one week the worst symptoms had lessened considerably and by the second week I was feeling so much better over all. A good nights sleep helps a lot and energy levels have increased too.

give it a try, I found that the pomegranate concentrate from Holland and Barrett (in white plastic bottle) to be the most effective.

I take Epsom salt and baking soda baths at night along with magnesium but during the day I use curcumin, vitamin D and B. Biofreeze numbs the pain so you can use that during the day or salon pas lidocaine patches. Both relieve deep tissue pain without any side effects. Hope this helps.
