ANY advice PLEASE: broken foot - holiday?

So I broke my 5th metatarsal (mid shaft) 4 weeks ago, I am meant to be going on a holiday on Monday but my foot meant I couldn't HOWEVER.. The last week my foot has made wonderful progress, swelling, bruising 100% gone, no pain. Last night I tried to walk on it (not 100% weight bearing) and no pain, so I tried more weight ., still no pain.

My next appointment is next week when I'm meant to be on holiday so I cannot see a doctor before I potentially go away now as it is the weekend.

I tried walking normally tonight no crutches, no pain, just a slight limp. What would you do in my situation? I will take my crutches for sure but my foot feels fine in a trainer (better than in the boot actually). Could my foot have healed really well in just four weeks?(of course not as strong as before). I'm 20, healthy etc.

Basically should I go on holiday or not, it's a city break so a fair bit of walking. Or is it just a huge risk. Advice/ support/ experience please!

If you cannot phone your doctor for advice, and as it is only the 5th MT, I would go on holiday but would make sure I wear supportive snd firm walking shoes (lace ups) all the time. Definitely NO light weight shoes or heels. Your foot needs support and to be kept rigid at all times. My last piece of advice is listen to your foot - if you are doing lots of walking and it starts to ache, sit down and rest for awhile. I would also take an icepack and in the evening use it on the foot.

    Enjoy your trip

    Hi Louise,

Just wondering how your foot is going?

I did same fracture about the same time.. Similar symptoms, was feeling pretty good about the 4 week mark. I'm at week 11 now and theres still no bony callus and fracture line is still clear. HMPH!

It's not really very sore to walk on but I am frustrated! Do these bones ever heal?!
