Any advise - new Crohn's diagnosis
Posted , 5 users are following.
I have very recently been diagnosed with Crohn's after months of unbearable abdominal pain and urgency to rush to the toilet. I am on steroids and due to go onto azathioprine I believe.
I'm worried about the side effects, as I've read most people are. Can anyone give me any advice on diet or anything? I've been trying to follow a low fibre after reading a book about Crohn's but unsure how long flare ups last and whether there's certain things I should be doing? I've also ordered lots of vitamins.
I know each person is different - i would just like any suggestions as its all quite new to me and a lot to deal with.
Thank you very much

Hi Fran I have been diagnosed for 21 years and did try this drug but wasn't for me. Lucky but trying foods and then refrain in this time I have only had 4 flare ups.. Three lasting 5 months plus. Currently just coming out of flare up and now been given Pentasa which is maintenance meds which hopefully will keep it at bay for a while. I would check out vitamins as a lot do not stay in body as absorbed through bowel walls. Have a chat with specialist nurse. Good health. Julie

I had Crohn's disease just started this year. I tried many medication but it does not work. Pentasa just make me reduced pain but going to toilet getting worse means going more times than before. I change into another one it is very expensive but then doesnt work. Now I change my diet, I eat los of yogurt and probiotic, chew slow not eating high process food not much fibre and I am in the remission for months now. Hope it helps. No medication for me except multivitamine.

Sorry to hear your medication did not work for you, however - that's great that you are now in remission due to diet and multivitamins.
Thank you so much - really good to know.

Iv had crohns for about 6 years now and its really hard to deal with .I have kept it under control with diet until now and iv tried one medidication which i had to stop cause of the side effects and my blood counts were out , i also have arthritis from it in my back and some other joints .i dont touch any dairy and try to stick to a very clean diet , look up the makers diet its very useful and has helped alot of people with gut problems , red meat affects alot of people with crohns aswell ( i eat hardly any) ,

Hi,
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm so sorry to read that you also suffer from arthritis.
It's good to hear that you have been able to control yours with diet. I will definitely look at the makers diet. Thank you very much
