Any alternative to sweets/sugar?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hello lovely ladies,

I've recently changed my diet, eating more healthy, cutting out sweets, cakes etc.

My body is craving for them but I know a lot of sugar makes PCOS worse. I've been eating a lot of fruit to try and get natural sugar from that.

What treats do you have as an alternative? Are there any low fat chocolates etc?

I went through 'withdrawal' of chocolate/sweets and crisps (in particular) but I did so, short term, by replacing my 'snacks of choice' with fruit and nuts - mixed bags, bought in the supermarket.

I stopped 'fizzy drinks' and replaced it with water (plain water) which I absolutely hated at first but now I quite enjoy!

Sadly there is no 'quick/easy' solution - lots of willpower mixed with dogged determination and once your body gets used to not having its 'fix', you'll find it all, very easy!

      Hi Chris-J,

Lovely to hear from you. I'll start getting the mixed bags - didn't think of that.

I've found some great crisps by Walkers that are multigrain - high in fibre and protein. I get the sour cream flavour - they're really nice.

The problem with any crisp type product is that they are a) deep fried and; b) made of starch (which once digested, converts to sugar.

Best to 'stay well-clear' of all starch based products - potato, pasta, rice, bread etc.

Thank you for that info. I suppose I'll be healthier for it. I've just started to do loads of research so I'm finding new things out day by day.

Potatoes - I have sweet potatoes now

Pasta, rice and bread - I have brown/wheat instead

Don't believe that chocolate would be low fat or not sweet. First month is the worst, later is better. Even somebody gives me something sweet I refuse - No, thanks. Strong will - this is the most important.
