Any experience of Movicol and dehydration?

please could anyone give me any advice please? Without going into too much detail,I have been told by three separate drs that Movicol is the best solution to chronic constipation problems, and the gentlest. I have a real fear of laxatives as I've always felt worse when I take them. I have tried Movicol three times now. I am prone to dehydration, but nothing has been diagnosed or even looked into.

The more I take of Movicol the more dehydrated I feel. I have just taken one sachet for 6 days and stopped again. I'm extremely inflated,my throat and sinuses are dried out, I've got indigestion, palpitations, dry eyes and I feel awful. It hasn't worked either.

Has anyone else had this please? I have had no luck on" Dr Google". I fear the dr will think I'm imagining it if I go back.

Thank you.

Hi Lilly- Movicol and Miralax may be the newest thing on the market for treating constipation. I don't think you can call them laxatives because they don't work directly by stimulating the muscles of the colon. Instead they draw water from your body into your colon so that things can move along better. Since that's how it works, it makes since to me that it could cause dehydration. You might want to talk to the doctor about decreasing the dose because you may not be tolerating this well at all. Beware that this med is contraindicated for people with kidney function abnormalities. I have been taking metamucil for years and it acts the same way as Movical. It's just a different substance-psyllium fiber instead of polyethylene glycol. Hope this helps.

I used CosmoCol Orange Flavour oral powder sachets for quite severe constipation and it worked. I never thought anything would work for me as I'd tried all sorts of other ways to relief it. But I'd defiantly give it a go if I were you, and good luck!

Thanks Danny. I actually put Movicol in my post because most haven't heard of Cosmocol. Cosmocol is just the same as Movicol( but cheaper so drs prescribe it instead) Really glad it works for you, I couldn't seem to get the dose right and I hated what it did to me. Trying various things and still hoping for something that works for me.
