Any experiences of a Radio-Frequency Endometrial Ablation please?

Hello everyone, I haven't been on here for a while as basically nothing has changed with me and I'm still bleeding after 13 weeks. I have seen a consultant today and subject to results of a biopsy which she did today, provided all comes back okay, have been recommended for a radio-frequency endometrial ablation - a scan on 4th October showed the endometrial thickness to be 24mm. She did say that it might not be possible to carry out the ablation and if this was the case a mirena coil would be the option (I am having a general anesthetic so assume this would be done at the same time if the ablation was not done).

The waiting time for an initial appointment on the NHS was 10 weeks so I am self funding at a private clinic. If all okay to go ahead with the ablation this should take place sometime this month.

Am wondering has anyone else had this treatment and was it successful? I am told that 50% of the time it stops bleeding completely, 40% improves it and 10% no improvement, this is the same as with the mirena apparently?

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with ablation. I am very interested in the topic though. The heavy periods every 21 days definitely have me thinking of alternative methods. I didn't want you to think that the lack of replies meant no one cared or read your post. Hang in there! Two years ago, I bled for over 30 days straight. xo

My periods were every 21-23 days too for probably 15+ years, until July this year when I went 6 weeks without a period at all and then from mid-August onwards I have had a continuous period. Am hoping this will work xx

Hi, yes I have had ablation done about 12 years ago & I'm happy to tell you that for me it was a 100% success. The procedure was done under general & it was only a day case (uk) so I was oit that afternoon. I was a little sore down below with some blood from the surgery but after about a weak I was fine & since then I have never had any more bleeding. Its saved me an absolute fortune in sanitary wear & I just dont need to worry about making a mess any more where I go to stay.

I'm sure things have changed & modernised in 12 years so im also sure youll have good success rate too. Good luck x

Thank you, I'm glad to hear it was a success for you - hoping it will be the same for me. I am also in the UK so it will also be a day case, I am waiting for biopsy result and then they will give me a date - I have been bleeding constantly for 13 weeks, so it can't come some enough really! xx

I don't have any feedback about ablation but I can tell you the Mirena IUD stopped my monthly flow/"hemorrhage " almost entirely and very quickly. It worked like a charm. But then it went sideways and I had to have it removed. But I believe that's not the norm -- just bad luck on my part.

Thank you - I was hoping for a Mirena as that was what my GP recommended and because this would seem the simpler (and as I'm self-funding cheaper!) option. However, the consultant said this would be considered if it was not possible to do the ablation and she obviously knows best. I am sorry that yours went sideways that does seem bad luck especially as it was working so effectively.
