I started my. Menopause at 39 I am now 56. I was given the mini pill which I tried on and off. Then the Mirena, instant weight gain that I have never really lost. Then patch and gel. Then Evorel Conti as patches are considered better. I have tried coming off several times and everything is great until the six months then bam, flushes every half hour, stiff joints, no libido, temperamental due to hot and cold flushes all night so no sleep. So to keep sane. for all of us!! I go back on and because patches go no lower than 50 and I want to TRY to wean of my doctor put me on Angelique but as I explained to her progesterone doesn't agree with me and needs to be lower than Estrogen/Ostrogen. With this current tablet I have stiff joints, incredibly swollen boobs, a rash on my neck front and back, achy legs and terrible back ache as well as back to a podgy tummy that I lost when cutting my patches in half (cos couldn't get lower dose?) but wasn't ideal. So if anybody has any really good advice and please don't say come off as you have no idea of how hot I get, unbearable I would love to hear. Thank you Kathy.

I'm sorry I can't offer advice on this. But I do have a question. You say that "everything is great until the six months"--as if six months is the amount of time it takes for HRT to get out of your system. I have never heard this before. Is that what you mean? If so, did you get that "six months" figure from your doctor, or from reading, or from experience?
I ask because I went off HRT November 2 (estrogen and progesterone pills) because of horrible bloating. My ob-gyn said HRT was the cause of the bloating, 100%, no doubt. Here I am, two months later, with the same bloating as before. I don't know whether the HRT needs more time to get out of my system, or if the ob-gyn was wrong and there is another cause for the bloating (I do suffer from chronic constipation and am on medication for that).
Thanks for any help you can provide regarding the timeline for HRT to get out of my system.

Hi Jeanette, it's roughly how long it's takes my body to 'get back to normal!' the first six months are great I feel the joints working, all good and then after six months all my symptoms start to reappear. I have learnt more from studying my own body than some doctors can tell me. HRT does put weight on around the stomach area. I feel this comes with the territory. HRT has given me some side effects but I have to weigh up the plus and minuses. I will do what I feel is right for me. All the best Kathy.

Hi Kathy,
Have you considered bio identical creams? They are compounded in the right mix for you and your bodies needs. Getting with a good doctor that knows what their doing is very important with hormone replacement. HRT is not a one size fits all and that is the problem with pills and patches. They only come in this size or that size . I see women on the patches and their cutting them and then cutting them and then putting a full patch. Its just all over the place. I'm 58, post menopausal for over three years and started bio identical hormone creams right away. No issues. I'm also with a medical dr. turned holistic that is very well versed in what is going on in a woman's body during this time and what to do to make her feel "normal" again. I just recently started getting pellets that get inserted into my upper buttocks and those have proven to work well too. What you described in your posting I am very familar with. The constant flushes when your trying to sleep will wear a person down fast. The pellets are natural as well and like bio identical cream our body knows what to do with them. Testosterone should be added to your hormone replacement as well. It will be good for your overall health and well being and help your libido issue as well. A good doctor in this field should be testing your numbers regularly through labs and making adjustments to your hormone replacement based on how you are feeling and your numbers. They will probably suggest some good supplements that will compliment your HRT as well and get you on the road to feeling better. There is a lot of good information out there to read and on video about bio identical hormone replacement and pellet therapy. Once you read up on this stuff you will be more comfortable in the use of it. My life has changed dramatically. I will stay on bio identical hormones for the rest of my life. My husband also is on testosterone pellets for his low testosterone. Men need their hormones replenished as well. Our life has been changed for the better. Depleting hormones continue to bring on more health problems as we age. In saying that, HRT isn't going to make us live forever but I believe it is going to give us a much happier healthier balanced life into our senior years. Good luck!

BioTe
Lower pain levels [RA and Osteo A ]
Less skin dryness
Libido good
No vag dryness or pain anymore
Not much appetite so I make myself eat sone thing. I'm 123 and 5'4.
But have been suffering hair loss si next time I will cut testosterone out and lower estrogen
First couple weeks breast were very sensitive and sore, took probiotics and was emotional. Then leveled out. Blood tests came up perfect except I had to stop extra D3 bc that and calcium blood rose. Which estrogen causes more vit D3 I guess. I'm trying to improve my osteo porosis and not have to take prolia... and avoid heart issues. That's why I started HRT at 60 already having passed thru meno p symptoms by 50ish. Patience with whatever you decide as time with each therapy is needed to adjust. Good luck and good health.

Like you, I went into the menopause in my early 40's. over the years,I have gained more and more weight which I have always blamed the HRT for, anyway to cut to the chase, my lovely young GP talked me into going off my HRT last summer. TO start with,I was prescribed tablets called Connistan which for years were used for blood pressure but also had the capacity to deal with hot flushes. All went well for about 6 weeks and I began to become emotional, lacked energy and the dreaded flushes returned so back to the doctor. Wonderful young man, we talked about the dangers or supposed dangers of hrt and he decided to try me on EVORIL CONTI patches. Again, all was fine for a while and then I started to experience terrible pain in my hips, legs and other places. I even felt pressure or strange aches in my back passage and vagina....I could hardly climb the stairs and really felt like a very old person. I couldn't believe that I had deteriorated so badly in 5 months, it was shocking. I returned to my doctor again and explained my symptoms and he was happy that we had tried a new method of dealing with my menopause but realised that it hadn't worked. I CELEBRATED MY 69thbirthday before Christmas and resumed taking Keflex hrt tablets and Thank GOD and my doctor, I am feeling totally well and fit again.
My advise.
Don't rock the boat! if you are feeling well and are not experiencing any untoward symptoms then, stay on your HRT. weight gain is not what we want. I like to blame the hrt but a great deal of the blame is mine as I eat biscuits, bits of chocolate etc.,and probably do not exercise as much as I could. If you feel well, be thankful. what is the good of being slim and feeling old and worn out? Get on with your life and be thankful that this generation has HRT to help us through this hell called the menopause.
