My daughter, who is now 6yrs old,was diaognosed with ceoliac disease at around a year and a half. I was told she had it really severe and wouldnt grow out of it.

My daughter is a very strong little girl and has adapted so well to a gluten free diet and is very bright when it comes to asking people to make sure she can eat a certain food.

Recently though(within the past year)on a few occassions she has experimented with food, when out with friends, that she defonatley isnt usually allowed and has had no reaction? She has always been so highly sensetive to wheay, gluten, rhye, oats and barley.

I would like to know if you can grow out of it and,if you can,how you can be tested for it again?

I havent heard or read about anyone growing out of it Leanne but if your daughter is not already being followed up with either yearly appointments at the hospital, then I would request an appointment through your GP. My son was diagnosed as coeliac when he was 14 and I was diagnosed a year after him aged 48, I presented no problems at all so was amazed that the gluten blood test showed me as having coeliac's, which was confirmed with an endoscopy. I would not have ever gone to my Gp at all if it wasnt for the fact that the full family was tested when my son was diagnosed.

Your daughter should be able to have blood tests etc, but I would definitely check with your consultant/GP regarding this. Hope this helps a bit ! I can eat something with gluten in now and not have any immediate effect but obviously cant say about the long term. My son can also eat something with gluten in and he sometimes has diarrohea, saying that we do really stick to a gluten free diet although it can be hard.

hi my partner has just been diagnosed with ceoliac and are waiting to see a dietician should she start changing her diet now or wait till appiontment comes i'm so confused

If she has definitely been diagnosed she can change her diet; it's just during the time leading up to a biopsy that you mustn't leave gluten out of your diet or you might get a false diagnosis. It's probably good for her to start the diet now then she'll know what questions to ask the dietician when she gets the appointment.

A useful forum is http://members2.boardhost.com/glutenfree/ where we discuss our symptoms and give and take advice from other sufferers. Its very useful for tips and ideas for meals etc as well as a source of encouragement for you and your daughter.

I'm afraid if she really has coeliac disease she has it for life, but its not so very bad - make a list of all the things she CAN eat and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I have problems controlling my weight now so I must be eating well!
