Any ideas on why I'm reacting to alcohol like this?

I can't drink anymore. I'm a 21 year old university student and I was binge drinking on the weekends from 2 or sometimes 3 times a week from June to December last year. After a 3 day binge drinking weekend right before Christmas, I experienced what I believed were withdrawal symptoms (night sweats, anxiety, audible sensitivity, extreme insomnia, this weird robotic feeling). A week after that I decided to give it a try again to see how I was going to react so I just had a few beers. I felt exactly the same way after that. Because of this I stopped drinking at all hoping these symptoms would fade away after not drinking for some time. Almost 3 months after I decided to drink just ONE beer, now 2 days after I am feeling the same symptoms very mildly. I even sweated a little bit one night after this drink. I haven't experienced with other type of alcohol rather than beer yet but is there anybody that has experienced the same thing? I never drank more than the usual college binge drinker. I have never really craved drinking. I am just concerned about if this is permanent brain damage because even though I wouldnt mind to stop drinking, I would like to still enjoy a few drinks socially. Thanks

You don't have permanent brain damage so get that fear out of your mind.
You need to do one of two things. Either avoid alcohol totally because you are on the edge of your problem becoming serious and life-changing and eventually life-threatening, OR try and get Nalmefene which is a pill you can take before you drink which stops you drinking excessively (it doesn't make you ill, it simply blocks the pleasure receptors which alcohol affects and in which, in your case, you get way above the level of reward that most other people get.
