Any News On Desarda Inguinal Hernia Repair?

I was diagnosed with double inguinal hernia a couple of years ago and have been on 'watchful waiting' ever since.
I studied quite a bit in the early months and got horrified and worried by all the stories of pain and complications after mesh and laparoscopic surgery.
I found Dr Desarda's technique and rather lurid web site and was very impressed in the finish. His figures seem good. He has this immense benefit of no chance of mesh complications and the possibly equal benefit of not requiring extensive technical training on the part of the surgeon.
But I couldn't find a surgeon in Australia who would do it.
And the whole medical establishment in Australia, within and without the government - i.e. up to and including the Royal College of Surgeons and the Minister for Health - would do nothing, not the smallest thing, to even acquaint themselves with Desarda's technique, much less make it available to me.
Giving me a further reason to rely heavily on watchful waiting and hope for maybe a self healing.
Well no self healing has happened and I've never heard of any regimen that might promote it.
I now wonder what's happening with the world of patients and ex patients.
Anyone had the Desarda technique? Knowledge of it spreading? Is it becoming available? Or has it gone backwards for some reason, found to be flawed? Or laparoscopy improved?
Does anyone have any comment, any new information for me on this subject, please?

Hi all
As detailed in a previous post on this page, I had a double Desarda inquinal hernia repair done by Dr Robert Tomas in Florida in 2016. That was over four years ago and no issues since. Fully healed, sound as a bell and I'm 120% happy with was was a very scary call back in 2016.
Of course Covid has changed things hugely about travelling overseas, but to anyone sitting on the fence about Desarda, in the hands of an experienced surgeon IMO its a fabulous solution.
The only downside is its a min of 8 weeks recovery - no lifting over 5kg, and to gain full strength and hence protection, takes two years. The vast majority of Dr Tomas's 1% reoccurances were in their first two years - once past that a reoccurance is extremely rare.
Last time I talked to Gerald Young (who does Desarda here in Auckland) some 18 months ago he'd done over 400 Desarda operations with two reoccurances. Both farmers lifting sheep over fences and both within that two year period.
He repaired one wiht mesh, the other with another Desarda. Yes you can have a Desarda redone, not ideal of course, but possible.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers
John

Going for the inguinal hernia repair using the Desarda technique with Dr. Brick on 1/17/2023. Will keep you all informed as to my progress. I will be 63 and love hiking in the rugged terrain of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I plan to continue doing this love. From my research I have found several medical studies comparing the Desarda technique to the Lichtenstein technique and the results are equivalent with the Desarda technique slightly favorable. one such study involves 349 patients with the Desarda technique and 15 years later 212 answered all questions to the follow up survey. only 3 reoccurring within 1, 3, and 5 years. The 1 year was surgical error. I have found no comparative studies using the Desarda technique vs the Shouldice technique.
I will be going for the Desarda technique because in my thinking the use of a muscle graph can strengthen to better or original muscle 💪 once healed from surgery. Hiking and planks should build that muscle.
