Any one else have to hide there fibro in order to get help from the doctors ?

A few days ago my back started to play up ten times worse than it normally does. I had to hide my fibromyalgia from my doctor and hope he didn't see or mention it from my notes otherwise it would just be more pain killers. In the past I've suffered from pleurisy which led to me haveing 2 broken ribs. I was scared that this was pleurisy again and I thought If I mentioned fibro he wouldn't even think of looking for pleurisy. Any one else have doctor problems ?

Yes, I hate mentioning it cos you know right away that they will put it all down to fibromyalgia, and depending on their belief, may even think its all in your mind. I dont mention it either if i can get away with it.

Thanks guys. I know the whole shabang is right there on the computer but most doctors don't even check up on your history these days. Think I'm going to ask for a referral.

      Hi Phil

The problem with the fibro/me/cfs patients' diagnosis is that everything can be attributed to that, because very few doctors think outside the box!

I have had gall bladder symptoms for over 2years and it took a newly qualified young GP to find the problem! Now I am waiting for surgery!

Don't get me wrong I have a very sympathetic GP re the fibro/me/cfs

but unfortunately they cannot always see past your existing condition

especially as there are so many symptoms!

I would definitely ask for a referral or try and see another GP!

Good Luck Phill and hope you get some help soon?!smile

    Hi Phil

it depends on which doctor i see, more often than not, i dont go anymore, as fed up of been told its the fibro. Its all across my notes so any of them can see it. Sometimes i feel fobbed off when just need reassurance and some testing that it is nothing worse . Hope your pain improving

I'm very lucky with my gp. If I question symptoms being part of fibro he tells me off for ignoring things that could be something more serious.

    Phil,

pleurisy is extremely painful and very different than FM. So soory u had broken ribs. That's is worse than Plurisy.

i have both . If u have FM  see a Rumy. They will help u with it and ask for PT to help with small stretches and exercises designed to keep the body from becoming stiff and cramping muscles.

    Good Luck biggrin
