Any other floor nurses out there??

Hi!

I am a 34 year old nurse on a transplant floor with a 3:1 ratio, so not too bad. 3 weeks ago I broke my R tib/fib resulting in a bimalleor fracture. I am one week post ORIF.I am extremely concerned that I will never be able to return to floor nursing. I'm already planning on switching to night shift when I do return. Are there any other floor nurses who can shed light on the real reality of returning to work post ankle fracture? I obviously want to be 100% for my patients. My normal med pass/morning chaos takes from 8:30- 11 am before I can have a seat (on a good day) any advice? Thanks!

Hello I am 13 weeks after having 2 lots of surgery from a bad talus break and dislocation with a plate and 4 screws. I am also a care assistant and am going to be going back to work long hours like you. I am weight bearing now with the help of 1 crutch. I was casted for nearly 9 weeks and put into a boot after that. I still have pain but that's to be expected and rarely take pain relief just grin and bare it. I am signed off until October but financially have to go back sooner. physio has been great for me and have been doing exercises provided which is helping greatly. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Take it easy as instructed for now. Have they given you a timeline for how long you will be non weight bearing?

      Hi!

thanks for taking the time to reply. I respect CNA/PCA ect. you guys are on your feet even more than we are🥺

I'm non weight bearing for 5 more weeks. I'm off the schedule until Oct 24. I go Monday for my 2 week post op follow up. I would like to be back to work before then because this has devastate my family. we were supposed to close on a house on 7/10 and the bank declined us because I broke my ankle 😭 and am out of work thru October. Congrats on being near the finish line. I hope your return to work is easygoing .

I know its not easy but you will definitely get there. I couldnt emphasize enough, PT is so important and it is so good for your mental recovery as well as physical. I had my follow up appointment today and got the all clear to progress as much as i want and the consultant was delighted i had taken the step to move out of the boot and start weight bearing 😁 I'm the same it's a struggle financially when not being able to work and I have 4 children at home also so they keep me busy. I did alot today compared to other days and my foot is stiff but I will keep fighting through it. keep positive if you can because that is half the battle! I am aiming to be back at work in September so fingers crossed. Goodluck with your follow up appointment!
