As many of you I am really suffering, for a year now and it's getting worse. I was postponing the procedure thinking that it's going to heal on it's own. Now I can't decide - botox or LIS?

there are so many bad experiences here. Anybody healed completely?!

I am freaking out, can't handle it.

On top of everything,I am a foreigner and I don't understand a system here.

Anybody can refer a good surgeon in NYC?

Are all the surgeries suspended bc of Corona?!

I have so many questions!!! please help

    Ana63083,

I am sorry to hear you are suffering. I too have been suffering for over 6 months trying to decide on Botox or LIS. Keep in mind you have been living with this for a long time and you will be ok if immediate surgery is not an option. I live in DC and surgery is not an option right now, so I'm on hold as well. I expect our area will be doing elective surgeries again in about one or two months. Until then I'll keep doing best with home care.

Regarding Botox or LIS.I visited a Colorectal surgeon willing to do either but he recommends trying Botox first. From what I can tell Botox has limited efficacy and provides 3 months or less of healing time. However, the Botox risks are minimal and the procedure can be repeated. LIS has better efficacy (approx 95%) but does have a small risk of incontinence (approx 5%).

Before speaking with the surgeon, I was leaning toward LIS because I want to be on the quickest and most certain path to recovery. However, the surgeon recommended I leave it up to him and knowing my predisposition, he will make a final decision by assessing the length and depth of the fissure. If the fissure is not to deep he will go Botox, otherwise LIS. I can't really tell if Botox is worth it or will simply prolong the agony, but I like the idea of basing the decision on the extent of the fissure.
