Any remedy or medication advice which will help me sing again?

I very much enjoyed singing in a choir, but was diagnosed with LPR four years ago.  After singing I became hoarse and croaky and my throat was tender.  I took PPIs for a few months, but they made little difference.  Now I'm managing with Gaviscon Advance occasionally and have left the choir.  I really miss singing and am wondering whether to go back to the GP to see if he can offer any further help.

Has anyone else found a remedy or medication which enabled them to sing again?

Hi Cheetah, I am a teacher and suffered with losing my voice often in classes. I now take vitamin D tablets 25 micrograms, high strength cod liver oil which contains another 5 micrograms of vitamin D, and I take zinc. This has all been really beneficial also cutting out caffeine and anything that contained refined sugar. My voice is much improved now. From what I have researched the acid also can cause inflammation throughout the body as it confuses the immune system into a response. All of these vitamins are linked with reducing this response thus the inflammation of the throat is reduced. I have also increased the amount of vegetables that I eat as most vegetables also seem to contain anti inflamatories. Hope this is useful. Regards Paul

Thank you for your reply, Paul.  I already take 25 micrograms of Vitamin D - my level was extremely low before it was spotted - and I don't have caffeine either.  However, I was interested to see you also take cod liver oil and zinc.  I'm afraid that I do have a sweet tooth - chocolate is my downfall - but I could certainly cut that down and also increase my vegetable intake.

Over the past few years, I have developed an inflammatory skin condition and also rosacea, for which I am seeing a dermatologist, so I can quite accept what you say about the immune system response.

BTW, I was also a teacher and did find that I occasionally had problems with my voice, before I retired.  I'm pleased that your voice is so much better.

Thank you again for your very helpful reply.

Something I forgot to say, car pollution is definitely part of the problem for me, if I go on holiday in an unpolluted place my symptoms completely disappear. This is obviously harder to achieve on a permanent basis, but if you can avoid car pollution do. Regards Paul
