Any research projects being done in the UK regarding UTI's ?

Has anybody heard of any research projects where they might be looking for volunteers who have continuing UTI's. I have been plagued with them for over 5 years and had most of the regular A/B's but never get clear and would be interested in trying to talk to someone who could give some advice and help which my Drs do not seem able to do.

Hey David
I wish they would do the same in the US. In 2014 had 7 infection and sepsis was good for a while. Last year had 6 and this year I have had 3. My doctor does not know what is going on. My stricture is fine my prostate is open. He has said my bladder and kidneys are okay. There has to be something. WHY. My GP either has nothing to say.
I had blood work and urine done 6 weeks ago and had a infection then. Had to have blood work done again gave a sample last Wednesday was very cloudy and a redish color. Waited to hear from him. I see my urologist on the 10 of April. I wish someone would find out why.
I hate taking all the antibiotic all the time.
Have a great day......Ken

Hi Ken,
I continually have UTI's and don't think I have been free since Sepsis 5 years ago. Prostate was taken out last year, so there is nothing there. Nobody seems to come up with a course of action, and I thought if someone was doing investigations then I could be a good candidate. At one time I wished they had hammered me with A/B's in the hope of being cleaned out or have a Prophylactic A/B but I have been told that could make me immune to A/B's. Go through at least 3 shirts per day due to sweating and so fed up and feel that I am the only one who can find a way out.
Just wonder how many others suffer like us.

Go to UK Clinical Trials Gateway where trials are listed and search but I did not see any for you in my brief search. If you Google clinical trials UK other links will come up.
I once looked at one for BP medications but to get on it you had come of medications for three months prior to it.
I applied for another BP treatment one but my BP was not consistently high enough but the examination showed that I had aortic stenosis and I had a new heart valve fitted so some good came out of it as the valve was 75% closed.

SuperTractorman: Have you tried D-Mannose? It tends to work pretty well for many people. The other thing you could try is Biofilm Defense (BD) which you can purchase on Amazon. Read the reviews. Seems like it works for many, although the company did have a quality control problem back in 2013 or maybe 2015. It doesn't actually kill bacteria but breaks down the biofilm that bacteria form and which is difficult for antibiotics to penetrate. If you take BD you have to take something to kill the bacteria. Monolaurin is used by some. Another would be oregano oil. I assume that you have urine dipsticks to check your urine.
Best of luck.

Hi David,
I have been plagued for more than 3 years and was sepsis once had a hospital stay for 6 days. Had the Urolift but did not solve the problem. I'm resistant to all the go to antibiotics. I would sign up for a study in a minute. Very depressing!..........Billy

Hey Billy.
Urolift I do not think it has anything to do with the infections. I had the infection and sepsis before I had the procedure. I hate taking the antibiotics. But sometimes you have to.

Hi Ken,
I had the infections before the Urolift. Uro told me the Infections were caused by BPH and the Urolift was supposed to solve the problem. So, if the problem is not BPH, bladder or kidney, what the heck is causing the recurring uti's? That's why somebody needs to do a medical study because it is obviously a pretty common problem. thanks, Ken........Billy

Yes that is true I wish someone would do something. I do not the infections are caused by BPHif it was no one would have a UTI again with all the procedures. You have so much in the groin area between the veins prostate bladder and all the other stuff that is connected. In 2014 is when I first notice the infection. 7 of them and then sepsis.
My urologist said that the infections were caused by my stricture because the urine would back up back in the bladder. My stricture is fine but I still getting the infection. So what is going on.
I wish like David said they need a trail to go through the male body to see what is causing the UTI's. Will be talking again to my urologist I have another on. The burning and the groin pain has change. I have always felt pain on the right side The last few day I had it on the left. I do not know what was worst the groin pain or the back pain. This was so bad that it reminds me of the pain I had with my appendix. I had that out when I was 9.
Maybe one day they will figure this out.....All the best guys....Ken

Look up Professor James Malone-Lee in the Uk. He has been treating women with persistent UTis and interstitial cystitis for what he terms chronic bladder wall infection. He has received good results so suggest you have a look at his work.

Thanks for that, just found out about him from another source, not sure if recognised by NHS yet.

Spoke with a lecturer today at our local University who trains Dr's and he said that Pharmaceutical manufacturers will not spend money on research with A/B's , because there is little money to be made from manufacturing them and they prefer working on drugs that produce high revenues. That then leaves this sort of problem to Health Authorities and Governments who never have any money !.
