Any success with low FODMAP?

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the low FODMAP diet? I'm at my wit's end currently, been dealing with IBS for 5 years now and always knew what to avoid eating (not that they ever had a pattern, was more of a trial and error system), but for the past year everything I've been eating has caused me nausea/bloating. It's making normal life quite difficult, I have severe emetophobia and haven't been eating properly, just because food makes me nauseous, and have lost quite a lot of weight. I tried going gluten free, dairy free and didn't make much of a difference, so have turned to FODMAP as a last resort. Anyone had any experience with it, either good or bad?

Hi, yes I am basically still using the FODMAP diet and reintroducing foods back It has helped me, especially when I first started out and my symptoms were at their worse. It helped to calm everything down and figure out if there were additional foods, aside from the ones I already knew, that were giving me issues.

I have been following a Low Fodmap eating plan for over 4 years and it has helped enormously. I do still get occasional flare ups but thankfully my IBS symptoms are pretty much under control. Mushrooms and onions are major triggers for me, to be avoided at all costs, and although I can tolerate small amounts of gluten it's easier to simply avoid it altogether. I appreciate the Low Fodmap plan doesn't work for everyone, but it's certainly transformed what had become a miserable existence for me, where I had reached the point of being afraid to to leave the house in case of an urgent and desperate need to get to a loo.
Good luck, and I hope it works for you.

hi Lauren ive been doing the fodmap diet abd i think it has helped me - especially taking out onions and garlic and the fruciferous vegetables. Defintely give it a go - its not as hard as people say especially if you make your own meals

Hi Lauren, long term IBS. Have been on low FODMAP & still partially on it because found that I didn't react to many types of food but for me stress was a huge trigger.Just to let you be aware, catch 22-stress,upset,food,upset,stress over symptoms.I also got to stage, initially where didn't want to eat, only porridge, water. FODMAP has helped as now know some triggers but stress reduction, awareness has really helped.Counselling,CBT,relaxation techniques etc. Also tablets for reflux & regular Gastroenterologist appointments.Hope you begin to feel better soon-took a while for me

The fodmap diet is very useful, foods it say are likely to cause you issues do generally cause me problems, onions, fruits high in sorbitol, lactose in milk etc, I use lactose free milk, I often refer to the fodmap diet, so in my view very good.
