Any weightlifters/bodybuilders who have had hip replacement?

Hi all,
Hoping that I might hear from weightlifters/bodybuilders who have had THR. I am an avid gym goer and a personal trainer who had hip replacement three weeks ago. One of the toughest aspects of THR is having to suspend my work outs (and my work as a personal trainer). I saw my surgeon this week (2.5 weeks post surgery for a follow up) and he actually told me I could do upper body workouts, as long as I remain in the seated upright position. I did a brief upper body workout last night:
*seated machine chest press
*seated lat pull down
*seated machine shoulder press
*standing dumbbell tricep extension behind the neck
*dumbbell bicep curls
*standing forearm curls
I did it in circuit training style - 3 sets each body part, 8-10 reps each
I am wondering if there are other weightlifters/bodybuilders out there with THR and how you have managed through the recovery and any advice and suggestions you can offer me . I also do a lot of walking (now using Nordic walking poles) and I keep my diet pretty strict in order to minimize fat gain.
Thanks to anyone who can offer their feedback. Much appreciated.
sincerely,
Lorne

I'm not specifically a bodybuilder however I am an avid athlete was a collegiate gymnast and a performing arts major in dance. Eight weeks after having a total hip replacement on the right leg and six weeks after the left THR. I rode my bike in the "Double-Triple bypass bike ride in Colorado. The Classic ride is 120 miles from Evergreen (Bergen Park) to Avon over Juniper Pass (11,140 ft.), Loveland Pass (11,990 ft.), Swan Mountain and Vail Pass (10,560 ft.), with over 10,000 ft. of challenging elevation gain. Then the next day the route was reversed from Avon to Evergreen 120 miles for a total of 240 miles. I just want to say be careful and don't overdo. In less than two years after my first THR I am now on my third and fourth total hip replacement! I did everything my doctor told me and he said the bike riding would be OK after 4-6 weeks I didn't train before the bike ride. I just did it, because I'm used to being in great shape it was harder than usual but I felt great. I thought everything was gonna be okay as long as I didn't do any high-impact activities like running (and oh how I miss running it was like losing a child). Anyway everything wasn't okay! Just take it easy so that your implants with take!

I was never into gyms or sports, but this year have started going to the gym in order to reduce the weight build-up following my botched THR in Oct 2015. I did manage to lost a lot of weight before the operation mainly by diet.
I am 65, and now doing treadmill walking, cycling and seated squats for the legs, and chest press, lat pull down for the upper body, all usually 3 times a week. I am doing this all under the watchful gaze of a personal trainer, or if he's not there then the machines record what I have done and he can see the statistics to check up on me (I know he does!).
I found the nordic poles were much better when recovering, the hand grip position is better and there was less strain on my shoulders from constant 'planting' of the traditional sticks.
Yesterday, we had our patio jet washed, and lots of the cement between the slabs jumped out, so I spent the day re-filling the gaps. After being on my knees crouched over all day, my lower back and thighs are very sore, I can really feel the muscle at the top of the implant this morning
.
Best wishes
Graham
