Anybody been using Azathioprine?

Posted , 3 users are following.

i have had UC FOR 15 years but with few flares. The last 18 months has been different. A non stop flare has been making life a misery, mainly due to constant urges to go.

My gastro consultant wants to move me from mesalazine to Azathioprine. Has anyone used Azathioprine and did it work? if it did, how fast and what were the effects?

I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Scott

I used them about two years ago on the worst flare I ever had.

Used them with colofoam and it sorted me out in about 3MTHS.

The aza do make you spaced out a bit but did the job. Cant remember how many mg i was on but it was high for a few weeks then taper down. They do make you real tired though so drivings to be avoided . Your memory isnt up to scratch either on big dosages aswell. Work was a nono aswell as i was spaced out and no energy.

Lost two stones but it worked and no moon face either.

    IT WORKS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYBODY.

ITS THE NEXT STEP UP IN THE TRIAL AND ERROR MED FRONT.

I hope it works for you.

thank you for this. do you mind me asking if your flare involved urgency and did the drugs solve that? toilet urgency is my worst symptom.

THE FLARE WAS MAJOR URGENCY. ABOUT THREE MONTHS ON THE PAN SO TO SPEAK. JUST ABOUT NON STOP.

DUE TO THE BOWEL BEING BACKED UP.

ONCE IT WAS CLEARED IT WAS WAY BETTER.

THE DRUGS HELP WITH THE IMMFLAMATION WHICH IN TURN HELPS WITH TRIPS TO THE TOILET. ( IF THEY WORK FOR YOU. )

THIS DOESN'T GET RESOLVED QUICKLY AS THERE ARE NO WONDER DRUGS FOR THIS ILLNESS. HOPEFULLY SOMEDAY.
