hi I caught genital herpes about 3 weeks ago and it's been horrendous, got everything, blisters itching painful peeing was sent to the hospital for a bag to be put in to drain my wee but I could eventually go to the loo but it was very painful and little came out, i have been on veltrex for the last 5 days not a lot of improvement but going to the toilet a bit better, my worrying problem is I'm completely numb down there and it tingles ****and it's spread to both my legs, can anyone tell me if that's normal and will pass?

hi rachel
yes... im familiar. lots of neurological symptoms starting few weeks after infection.
i had: numbness, weird sensations (eg my hip felt super hot) constant tingling, muscle twitching in my whole body, muscle weakness in legs and later arms, coordination issues. next to a super irritated groin area, nerve itching and swollen lymf nodes. weird pimple rashes, never real blisters though!
google: neurological complications hsv and you will find a lot about it.
in my case doctors didnt recognize how severe this was
i arranged valacyclovir and took 3-4 500mg a day. after 8 months most of my symptoms are gone.... but it was scary as f**k.
try to find a good one!
maybe intraveneus acyclovir is needed in your case
goodluck...

numbnesss at some areas / hip area took a long time (at least 2 months I think) and yes all was hell indeed!
radiculopathy and myelitis are the words I believe.
please get help from a good doc who takes it seriously. in my opinion - when it affects you neurologically- its very important to take a good amount of antiviral meds.

oh Sam thank God you for responded to me because iv googled those 2 words and they are my symptoms , thought I was going mad, your amazing and thanks so much I'm very grateful to know it's actually a effect of herpes because it's very frightening, the doctor only gave me 500mg of valaciclovir once a day and nothing was improving so I started taking 2 a day and there's a slight difference, she said I was over the worst 2 weeks ago just because the sores were going down but she didn't listen to me when I told her about the numbness she sent me to hospital to get my urine drained which they didnt do and that was that, left with my prescription of 500gm a day! some of these doctors don't care

the knowledge of docs is very very little.most think its just an innocent skin desease but its really not when it affects your nerves. i saved my own body by arranging and taking valacyclovir. i used 2-4 pills of vala 500mg for 7 months. depending on how bad the symptoms were. your body needs viral supression in case of neurological symptoms otherwise more (permanent) damage can occur by thus horrible virus...

i was thinking the exact same. i thought: if I knew this, id rather never had sex but with the 1 person I marry.
like noone warns you against how bad the conaequences can be...
may I add that in my case it was from 2 minute lasting bad sex with a condom with someone who drugged me.... yes, for real. while normally I never ever get in these situations.
still processing.
goodluck and try find a doc who knows and takes you serieous/neurologist.

and in some cases a lumbar punction is needed to check if the virus has entered/infected your central nervous system
