Anyone been successfully on Citalopram a Second Time??

Posted , 8 users are following.

I'm still bound to go back on Citalopram 10mg. Still really scared of the start up side effects again. But reading every thread of someone getting back on ends up in them just switching over to something else. It's something I don't want to have to do! I was previously on Citalopram for 6-7 months starting at 20mg and going up to 30mg and tapered down to 10 mg and just went off from there and spiraled down again. I guess I just need some reassurance?

I was on Citi for 4 months and went off myself for 3 months, found out I do need to be on something. The Dr was gunna put me on citi and then we decided that I was gunna go on Lexapro, also known as Escitalapram. It's very similar to citalapram, except it's stronger( was on 20 mg citi and now on 10mg Escitalapram ) same dosage. Also known to have less side effects. Which when I went on citi, I didn't notice a whole lot of side effects and with the Escitalapram, it was great, very minimal side effects! And I've been on on Escitalapram now for 5 weeks and still feel awesome. In the past I was on sertraline, which went off and then went on Wellbutrin, which was a nightmare, so making changes is a bad thing sometimes but then again it can be a good thing also! Good Luck with whatever decision u make😀

I am in the same boat as you, was on it for 8 years, came off back in March (slowly), and now fighting the need to go back on them, and likeyou scared of the side effects and the fact that if I go back on them, I will be on them for life this time around sad

Hey Dawn, 2nd time of going back on anti depressant, 1st time I was on citalapram, 2nd time Doc put me Escitalapram, which is newer version of citi, the difference of the two is less side effects and starts working faster! It's great, no real side effects of any kind, and felt great right away! Just a thought for whatever you decide, it's been 5 weeks on them and I still feel the same from when I started taking them. I feel awesome, energy, attitude, everything is great! I also will probably be on for life! Another benefit, I haven't put on any weight , actually lost a couple pounds from what I put on while on Citi Good Luck!!😀

Hey Nicola, my second time I was put on Escitalapram, which is a newer version of citi, less side effects and works faster! I was also on sertraline early on and didn't really work for me. Maybe ask your Dr about that, it really works great for me!!

Spoke to the doc, and he will not change my prescription sad he said yes there are less side effects with Escitalapram, but try citipram first and if I get side effects he will change to escitalapram, tried to explain that would it not be better to just change it before I start taking them so then I know I will not get side effects, but might as well talk to a brick wall sad x

Hey there, it may help with minimal side effects, everyone is different, some people do it slowly, like cut your pill in half and go up slowly, I guess u won't know until u try! Best of Luck🌻

    Hi Bee,

I was first on cit in 2012 and stayed on them till the following April, decided I wanted to come off of them and by the November had got down to 5mg but I felt things weren't right so my Gp said to go back to 10 then 20, it seemed to take at least 6 weeks before I felt it was working but it was worth it, I suppose the second time around and as I hadn't come off of them completely I felt it should work quicker but it didn't, I am glad I stuck with it though as it was good after the 6 weeks, this year I have been tapering off again and have been off completely of for the last 5 weeks, so far so good. Hope all goes well for you.

Today is Day 6 of 10mg. I haven't really had any side effects at all starting on 10mg. But for the past few days I've been feeling a little low and anxious. Friday I move up to 20mg. I'm usually fine for awhile in the mornings and afternoons after I take my pill but during the evenings I tend to feel low and anxious. Has anyone had this? Will upping my dose make it better? I hate feeling like this.

Hey Dawn, I am now on Week 2, Day 5 of 20mg. I have been so tired all the time, today I took a 4 hour nap and scared my friends cause they didn't hear from me! Haha. But things are looking up, and am sure things will start looking up for you too! I'm going back to school on Thursday also which is a big anxiety trigger for me, but I feel like I can do it now smile Good Luck!

I know it will be gone soon! I have to up to 30 mg on Friday and finally stay on that dose. A little bit of tmi, but I started my period today and today I've felt a little low. Is that normal? Thanks for responding!
