Anyone come off Prozac and get better, how soon?

HI All,
I have had a problem with anxiety for about a year now, I've tried a bunch of different antidepressants and they all seem to make my condtiion worse. I recently tried Prozac for about 8 weeks but it made my anxiety so bad I coudn't leave my house or go to work. I was on 20mgs. I stopped the Proaz cold turkey (per my drs advice) 14 days ago and I feel somewhat better but still have a lot of anxiety - like more than when I started the Prozac. Can anyone tell me if they had a bad experience with Prozac and came off, and how long before things got better? My dr told me it takes a month to get out of your system but I'm wondering when the effects of the drug will lessen. Thanks so much!

ive been on prozac for 6 months now, started at 20mg, then went up to 40mg then he wanted me to go up to 60mg but i just couldnt, so this past friday i decided just to stop taking it. I feel less jumpy, jittery, nervous, i think it's the prozac doing that to me, i just want to clear my body of all or any meds im taking see if that wil help me. Like i keep reading we have to and can fight this without meds, they are just a temporary help, but meds are not for everyone, and i know my doc is such a joke because he just keeps upping my doses and doesnt really hear me out. Ill keep posted on here to see how i keep doing..hopefully ill get better within 1 month.

I'm the same as you, I'm clearing my body of meds as we speak. I just kept trying drug after drug for an entire year and I'm not getting anywhere. I really want this Prozac to clear my system to see if I go back to being semi-ok. I also found out about this company called genesight who can do a simple DNA test to determine which drugs will work best for you can which ones you will not do well on. It also tells you if your body can properly metabolize the drugs. I'm asking my dr to look into it, I think it might be worth a try. Keep me posted on how you are doing! I wish you luck!

Hi my doctor did they same to me, all I wanted was counselling just over a year ago,put me on all different AD's Procac included, the last one I was on was Mirtazapine, was on them before, but this time when he gave them to me he told, ehy they didn't work last time was you wern't on strong enough, how wrong was , I am so muvh worse now having to tske Diazepam for the withdrawals. .. I take thyroxine and I don't think Ad"s go with thyroid..... my depression only started because of bereavement. ... Hilary

Sounds like you probably don't need meds at all! So sorry this is happening to you. I'm having to take Klonopin to cope with the terrible anxiety mostly caused by the Prozac. Just wanting this to go away.

i had had the same problems with anxiety whilst taking Prozac, it made me feel ten times worse. I stopped taking Prozac about 2 months ago and only now has my anxiety improved to a level I can live with.

OH wow! Two months?! I've only been off two weeks and I was hoping for improvement. How long were you on it for before you stopped? Thanks!

My dr told me it takes a month to get out of your body. You probably have about the same amount of drugs in your system as when you were on them. I've been off them for about 16 days and still feel terrible. Not sure when this will get better, sorry!

Yes, I was on Prozac for two months before things got really bad. Right now I'm taking Klonopin as needed which is not the best solution. Today is day 17 no Prozac. I still feel very anxious. Like shaky, almost like I've had too much caffiene and I can't sit still. I get chest pains too. Sometimes I feel dizzy. The symptoms come and go but are often. I'm barely able to go to work or out to stores to shop. I try my best not to take the Klonpin unless I really cant handle it - which is a lot. I just did a test with my dr that can determine the best and worse medications for your body based on a simple DNA test. I've tried so many ADs I'm willing to try anything. I thought I would be better off the Prozac but things are still bad. I dont know if the Prozac messed me up or if it's just my anxiety getting really bad. Anyway, hopefully this test will narrow down which drugs will and will not work for me. My mom's friend had it done and it really helped her get on the right meds.I need some relief!
