Anyone dealing with feelings of sadness and dread?

Where there's no real cause even -- just feeling low and down, perhaps anxious too? How do you deal with it? Does it seem worse at certain times of your cycle? I'm into pms week now, which I guess doesn't help; the insomnia doesn't either. I think at least some of it is me subconsciously mourning my "pre-peri self" : /

    Hi Cat,

Sadly, these terrible feelings are a part of perimenopause for so many women, myself included. Yes, I have had horrible, numbing sadness over absolutely nothing at all. My life is amazing in so many ways, and I am intellectually aware of this, but it doesn't stop the worry, depression, and hopelessness from presenting themselves. Some moments, hours, days, weeks I feel great, and then it can be as though someone has flipped a switch, and I am crying, anxious, angry, and deeply sad. I can recognize that nothing bad is going on, but the feelings are still there. Knowing that it is hormonal helps somewhat. I also force myself to stay busy and do things that I think might soothe me, such as walking in nature or gardening. Reading posts of women going through what I am helps, too. When it all becomes to much to bear, I break down under the weight of it all, and just cry and scream and do whatever I can to take the emotions down a notch; this strategy does help me. I know that it can be brutal to cope with. Just know that one day it will all be in the rear view mirror, and you will be so much stronger and more compassionate because of it.

    Hugs,

    Bev xo
