Anyone else experience similar?

Im a 32 year old female and I have suffered from pain in upper left quadrant for about 4 years. When it first happened I had various tests, blood works, stool sample, camera down throat, ultrasound, ct scan all of which showed nothing and I ended up just being told to change my diet. After splitting from my sons father the pain disappeared for about a year so I put it down to being stress. Then after about a month of having my daughter by c-section it came back and been with me again for almost 2 years! It's not a horrific or constant pain but it's just there like a spasm that lasts a few seconds and occurs frequently.

It sometimes radiates to my back but feels better if I push on that area and it rumbles almost like it could be trapped wind. That area is very noisy when I press on it and sometimes I can hear things slushing around if I push my tummy in and out in that spot! Sometimes I feel clogged up all way to my throat and feel like I need to burp, i get heartburn when bad too. Has ibs since I was a child and I'm generally quite constipated.

I have been a heavy drinker for about 10 years, probably having at least a bottle of wine most nights but have cut down lately as it seems worse the day after drinking. I've been paranoid about chronic pancreatitis but I would of thought I'd be in more pain as I'd only class the pain as about 2/3 on a scale of 10. I've looked up splenic flexure syndrome and my symptoms seem like it could be that. I have an appointment at hospital but not until October. Just want my mind put at rest that it's not my pancreas!! I have recently had another ultrasound done, blood works including lipase levels and stool sample. All normal.

    Hi Nat

Worrying about things will sometimes make you feel worse,  stress is a major player in any stomach related issues.  I to was a big drinker and over the past five years have given up all together. I've had the same tests as you and like you they found nothing really so they said I've got IBS I don't believe that for one second but recently I was told to take buscapan ibs tablets and in all fairness they do work so take from that what you like lol... Please don't stress about things and googling symptoms is a really bad idea, I did that and it said I was pregnant...  I'm 43 and a bloke lol!!!!

Thank you I have been terrible worrying lately and it seems to be taking over everything! Constantly on google or going back to my gp they must think I'm nuts!

I know stress doesn't help the situation but until I've seen specialist or had a scan again To rule out pancreas problems or anything serious I don't think I will be able to stop myself! I'm sure if I'm told it's just my ibs and I actually believe them then symptoms will start to get better as I will be less tense! It's just the waiting!

      Thanks for response

Just thought I'd throw one idea out there. For years I had similar pain off and on until I became so severe one day I could not move or breath and passed out. I was rushed  ER. It turned out to be a gallstoneattack a stone caught in the bile duct. So that might be something else to rule out. Does u dr know UR a heavy drinker? That could help him help u. Or also check angina. Online. There r two types.

If I were u in ur position and fear drinking can cause pancrititis I would quit right on the spot a friend of mine just had surgery for pancrititis called a whipple.. His chronic pancrititis turned in to cancer . The whipple proceedure is when they remove all the inner organs out of the body to remove the pancrititis by leaving a small cowberry not effected . Then they have to replace all the intestines liver gallbladder stomach back into the abdominal cavity. It's a 7 hour surgery. All due to alcohol. He has had a rought time lost 80 lbs is a skeleton of the man he used to be. Constantly getting infections and only on liquid foods.  Also fatty liver. And liver corrosis account for a few life long issues  from alcohol. If u could consider stoping the crazy madness & worries then by stop the drinking for a few days and see if that is the cause for UR un identified pain. Then at least u have a place to start. Heavy drinkers can suffer many types of diseases. UR children would be happier to have all off u that part of u!biggrin

Alcohol is a mind controlling disease. Pancrititis is a fatal disease often caused by alcohol. I hope to God for UR children's sake u get thru this.

    GOOD LUCK biggrin

I stopped drinking at the start of this month. Had a couple of wobbles but only had about 3 glasses of wine. I haven't drank heavily like I used to for about 6 months.

Doesn't seem to make my symptoms a huge amount better though.

Sorry about your friend, I've done lots of research on pancreatitis and it sounds like a horrible disease.

My doctors know about my drinking they have done for a long time and put me on antidepressants a year or so ago, I'm now off them. All my gps that I have seen (about 7 different ones!) say they don't think it's my pancreas and think it's more to do with ibs but I know it's a very hard disease to detect so until it's completely ruled out it's always in the back of my mind!

To control mad put IBS in remission is searching out foods that cause the cramping and diarrhea...time to quit drinking anyway. U r going down a slippery slope. UR kids need their mom? Alcohol can cause IBS ITS A MAIN TRIGGER... For IBS. SO MANY PEOPLE CANNOT drink alcohol it causes a high acid stomach and kills off all the good bacteria and therefore triggers off all the symptoms of IBS. Which in turn is not controlled a colostomy could be in UR future. Or other serious diseases associated with alcohol abuse. That's is what u stated UR a heavy drinker?

ask UR doc for meds that help u get thru the cravings for alcohol. Will get u off alcohol for a few months for u stomach to have all the good bacteria needed to break up foods. That sais no junk foods or greasy fried food and eliminate eating out and no prepared foods . Eat only whole foods. This along with no alcohol will give UR tummy time to heal and u will feel much better without all the darn miserable side effect ofIBS. Take it or leave it. U listen to this u will get sooo much better . Fight my words u will get worse..

it UR choice. Drop the greasy food no eating out there is chemicals preservatibpves and dies in foods . It UR choice read up see for urself. I'm speaking with years of experience only . I'm no a doc. I did put my IBS In remission . biggrin

Depends what you call a heavy drinker? At one stage at a bad time in my life I was drinking a bottle of red wine most nights and perhaps more on weekends. I know that's way over what's healthy! I did feel I was dependant and it was all I had to look forward too. My sons should of been enough to make me stop but unfortunately I didn't think I was doing anything wrong and damaging myself. I come from a family of heavy drinkers, my dad is actually an alcoholic and all his side of my family drink daily as does my sister and my friends so I just thought it was normal!

I wasn't drinking from the second I got up or drinking bottles of spirits so didn't think I had a problem.

When I had my daughter (she's almost 2) after 9 months not drinking my body couldn't take it the same and I had terrible hangovers and for first time ever alcohol sometimes made me sick, so since then I've cut down lots and can't even finish a bottle of wine since having her. In the last month with stomach getting worse I've stopped completely.

I am a very anxious stressful person which I know is terrible for ibs! I also don't eat healthy at all, I cook for my children but because I'm now on my own with the mo rarely cook for myself so I just snack on rubbish!

I know I need to change that as well as the alcohol. I'm just such a rubbish cook!

Thanks for taking the time to give me advice x

When I say I was drinking a lot I mean 6,7,8 cans of strong lager every night and I did that for over two years plus taking all manor of rubbish...  I like you got separated and that's what started it all off. I stopped the drinking and smoking started to live healthy and have never felt so I'll lol x

Yes I took a few silly things too which I would never of dreampt of when I was younger when most of my friends were doing it. I seemed to have a mid life crisis at 28! I used to drink before that too from early 20's but that year or so of being single was my worst and I selfishly didn't care what it was doing to me! For the only time in my life I felt free and stress free and didn't feel ill at all (I had the pains for 2 years with my ex and when I left him they went away!) dispite drinking worse than ever! It's since having my daughter and having yet another bad on/off relationship with her father that it's come back! That's why it could be stress!

Strange how we feel worse when we have done the right thing and tried to get healthy! My dad and his side of fam are in late 60's early 70's drank shed loads and smoked for years and are mostly as fit as a fiddle! Maybe it's cos they don't worry!

You might have a point there about the stress thing, all I no is that my stomach problems do seem to ease off when I've been either away from work or have had a few days at home with the family... Stress really is a pain in the arse and I no what you went through with the bad relationships you've had I've been through similar problems, I think that you may have agrevated ibs brought on by stress.have you tried an aloe vera based drink that works well for me, where abouts in this lovely country are you?

I did try that a few years ago as I worked for 'forever products' for a short while. I think they are the main seller of the drinks. I did find it helped but was quite expensive. I did think of trying it again.

I'm in worcester, not a particularly beautiful part of the country I'd much rather be by the coast but too scared to move away! How about you?
