Anyone else get tight throat as an anxiety symptom?

I always hear of people getting a tight chest, rapid heartbeat, etc. If I have a panic attack, that's what happens AND I hyperventilate.
But, what's been plaguing me lately (and has for years) is a constant throat tightness, lump in throat. It doesn't make me necessarily freak out, but sometimes it worries me because it feels as if I can't swallow or sometimes breathe. It comes and goes now that I'm on Citalopram...but I feel like it's not a very common anxiety symptom.

Hi. I had that for almost 5-years. Actually before I even had anxiety. Or so I thought anyway. I even went and had my throat scoped. It was fine but it freaked me out. It has gone away for the most part since I've been on cit 20mg for 6-months. I also go to yoga, meditate 3x a day and do acupuncture 2x a week and see a therapist.
Good luck. I hope it gets better for you too.

Yea I get that as of about 2 or so weeks ago, but only really when I swallow and not everytime. It also feels like my throat is sore or my right side. It doesn't really freak me out unless it's a constant for more than a cpl days at a time then I freak out and get the foggy feeling and the feeling of something is seriously wrong all over again lol this anxiety saga seems to never ever end it's always something lol but surprisingly it is pretty common anxiety symptoms or so my dr said and this forum has reassured me on it as well

That's some relief that your doctor said it was anxiety induced. Thanks!

Hi DarthGeorge,
Throat trouble is a very common symptom of anxiety so don't worry about it. That's how my issues started . I was having burning sensations which over a period of three months become quite bad and constant. I have been on 20mg of citalopram for almost a month and although it is still there , it is less bothersome and I am able to function again. Mine is now starting to feel like a lump and discomfort when I swallow but I feel it is getting better. I have had medical investigations and there is nothing wrong physically wrong. It's anxiety induced. Hope that helps.
