Anyone else got / had FIA?

Just wondering if anyone else has had to have a new hip due to FIA like me. I'm 47 this year, no arthritis or anything, used to own a couple of ponies from 10 to 16 and the constant rotation of my left hip with impingement pushing it out of line has worn away the cartilage. I didn't even know this was going on tho till i started getting pain a few years ago as the damage was done and just deteriorated. Jay

Yeah, my youngest(13) plays footy competitively, wonder if i can get his hips checked so he wont need thr just mabey keyhole hip preservation. 😕 . Consultant didnt seem to really know what root cause of bone overgrowth was" could be genetic , or sport related or something else".

I am 44 and having a THR 20/4.  I have been sporty all my life, and riden horses both as hobby and professionally for many years.  I too have a cam impingement.  Was in pain for many years before being diagnosed, and after steroid injections and arthroscopy now on hip replacement.  Feeling scared but heard many positive outcomes and hoping to return to riding/skiing and walking.  Fingers crossed.HX

      Hi Helen, Richard,

I'm 2 weeks post op now, had left hip replaced at rugby st cross hospital, "superpath" minimal invasive technique and accelerated recovery program on 9/3/15 went to theatre at 16:30 General anaesthetic and next thing I was being woken up. Bit sick, but only once, back on ward by 21:00.slept till 6:30 Tuesday. At first it felt like someone had my leg clamped to bed , and no way I was gonna move it again. However, by the time the nurses came to help me 10:30 ish , I was able with minimal assistance to get from bed to walker to chair. Since then I kept up all exercises and legs get stronger each day, now quite mobile with one crutch, taken a few steps with no aid but tires muscles quickly. My knee seems to have suffered a bit too but it getting stronger also. Btw only on paracetamol and ibuprofen now and again now, didn't even need all the morphine tablets they sent me home with. Best o f all my left foot points the right way now and the pain and grinding from before have gone!smile

Hi Jason.. I've been having right sided hip, groin and lower back pain for a couple of months now but it has become worse much recently.. I had a pelvic xray which I managed to get one of our orthopedic surgeons at work to look at ( I work in a busy outpatients as a receptionist and my local community hospital ( where I had the xray done) aren't the fastest at getting results back to the gp!! He said I had an extra bony growth rubbing on the hip joint.. Ive been reading up on it and it sounds like a bone spur /FAI ..im seeing my GP on Thursday to confirm this. I'm using cocodamol and voltarol gel for pain.. Sometimes it helps.. Sometimes not! How are you doing? I'm just hoping I can get it sorted out without too much fuss!!

It worries me that, after reading this thread, how many of you are my age and having hips replaced! I'm 46 and I've been having this pain for a few months.. It worries me how bad it might be and what might be needed!? I used to swim 3-4 miles a week abd up until a couple of years ago I was running fairly regularly.. Is 5-15 miles a week on the treadmill

    I'm getting quite worried

Good news. No impingement reported on xray so I don't know what bony bump is that consultant saw and gp can't actually see xray yet.. But she's referred me to musculoskeletal service for further treatment. She offered me amitryptilline for possible neuropathic pain but it has a sedative effect so I refused.. I'm happy to stick with paracetamol and voltarol
