Anyone else had detatched feeling? Was it a side effect?

My story so far! I took Citalopram for 12 years due to severe anxiety and got my life back, it was a miracle drug for me and worked amazingly. Fast forward to the past few months, I felt it stopped working as well as it had been. Doctor advised to stick it out due to Covid going on etc. So I listened and tried to stick it out but it was impossible and 5 weeks ago I hit a wall. Couldn't function due to anxiety, intrusive thoughts, the full shebang. Tapered off Citalopram over a week and started Sertraline 4 weeks ago nearly. I was on such a high at finally changing meds the first 2 weeks were great! Last Thursday I got my period and instantly felt detached from reality. It was the worst feeling so far. It lasted for 5 days and scared the life out of me. I felt like I was here but not if that makes sense. It passed but now I'm anxious about it coming back!! Has anyone else experienced the detached feeling? Was it a side effect? Thanks for reading!

    Hey there,

Actually yes, I seem to be experiencing the exact same thing you are! I have been on sertraline 50 mg for a little over 4 weeks now, and I am currently on my period.

I started feeling weird, like foggy and spacey a couple days before I started, and it has continued up to now. I had thought that maybe it was just another side effect that I had to get through, or perhaps it was just a result of my period, (my hormones have been wonky since I quit birth control recently.)

It will be interesting to see if it gets better when my period is done.

I am new on this forum and I will be posting my story later today, hoping to get some support!
