Anyone else have a new knee cap that does not move?

I am 5 1/2 post op and my new patella does not move. My PT has tried to manipulate it, but without success. See my surgeon at the end of the month so I will get his opinion then.

They are supposed to "float" aren't they? Maybe soft tissue damage holding it back?

Well sorry to brag but my kneecap wiggles rather well (she says sarcastically) pt wiggled it when I told him that it was aching after physio session. Not too sure I wanted it to move as it felt really weird.

Did they replace it with a new one or just scrub and polish your old one like me?

Hopefully you will get some movement soon

At first session of physio was shown how to massage the patella from side to side, up down and diagonally so have done this from early days..guess your surgeon will have the answers - good luck!

I have never tried to move mine, it never occrred to me.  My surgeon was keen to point out he had given  me a new knee cap, he said it works so much better with  replacement than rejigging the original one. I can flex my new knee ..if that is the correct term (the equivilant of wrinkling your nose) but don't fancy trying to move the actual part, really don't see what that would ahieve.

Hey Suzy I'm 7wks post op I was taught to move my knee cap during physical therpy so scar tissue wouldn't form under the knee cap. With the leg extended straight move the knee cap From side to side push down form the top and up from the bottom. This should be done a few times daily every day.

Yes, your patella. .old or new. .should move. My therapist moves mine for 5 mins 3 times a week and has shown me how to manipulate it as well. It will get stiff and scar tissue can build up around it preventing it from moving if it is not moved often while you are healing. Good luck with yours!
