Hi, I had my left thr in Nov 2016 and my groin/front and back of hip started hurting Feb 2018. I've had all the tests done but nothing shows except for my cup is probably snagging on my psoas tendon. I've been pretty much housebound with the pain. My normal surgeon doesn't know what to do with me as I shouldn't be in so much pain?

I have to go to see a new surgeon on 21st Jan and hopefully he'll have more ideas.

Hope you don't have too much pain but it could be your psoas tendon. It seems a pretty common condition to get after a thr.

    Good luck!

My pain didn't begin until a couple years after surgery either. Went back to original surgeon and also saw different surgeon. The consensus seems to be that the pain is coming from the flexor tendon due to anterior surgery. Not much to be done. Now I have to have right hip done and am worried about that happening again. My new surgeon said he will go in more from the rear and that should spare the tendons. If your Dr has any ideas please share.. Thank you.

Its called iliopsoas tendinitis. I have had it since Aug 2018, after a fall. Can be caused by the acetabular cup being too large. My surgeon said the X-ray shows this is not the case for me, and to wait, and it will heal. Instructions were to stop doing any hip flexion that causes pain, until it heals, which he says will happen in 2 weeks to 6 months. Says to take an anti-inflammatory such as naproxen, and not to attempt strengthening exercises or physio until pain was gone.

So I stopped biking, even though i could do that without pain. I would have to pick up my leg with my hands to get into a car. I had to sit down and pick up the keg to get into pants or shoes. And it hurt to get into bed.

Pretty frustrating, but at 4 months it started improving somewhat, and i started doing psoas stretching daily. There are good demos on YouTube, or go to a good yoga teacher. There are surgeons who cut the tendon which provides quick relief but he doesn't do that. Says if its not better at 6 months he will refer me to radiology for a guided steroid injection.

Hi Jeff, appreciate it's two years since your post but just wondering if your iliopsoas tendinitis has cleared up fully. Thanks so much.

I had both hips replaced. The right one in 2014 and the left in 2015 due to Avascular Necrosis. I have never been the same since. I continue to have groin and thigh pain. I have been in pain everyday since having the thr. The pain on the thigh area is most likely Bursitis. Which means inflammation. What I don't understand is the groin pain. Obviously the joint isn't real. I have had several MRI's and xrays. They all come back normal except for the fluid in my joints due to Rheumatoid arthritis. Noone can figure out why I still have pain there. I'm so happy that I found you because I thought I was the only one dealing with this.

I had my surgery 8 months ago. I too have never been the same since. I have groin and thigh pain. Like you the MRI doesn't show anything. I did have the iliopsoas bursitis and aspirated it over 2 months ago. No change at all. Pain in thigh is burning and groin is clicking and hurting. My first surgeon was very nasty and practically dismissed me. Two other surgeons will not admit if anything is wrong. I also have a leg length discrepancy also. Am limping and am in pain and there is no end to this. This surgery ruined my life! I live in a big city and cannot get the proper help. Hard to believe.

I only had my RTHP 3 weeks ago, and can't reasonably respond to your question. I would recommend making an appointment with your surgeon ASAP before it gets any worse.

    Keep us updated.

    Good luck,

    Georgette

I had a Hip Replacement 12 years ago. I'm 80 yrs old now and am having problems.

After a fall about a month ago, I am now having pain on the outside of my upper left leg, it's roughly about 4 inches below my hip and also in my buttocks. It doesn't seems to bother me while I'm resting, but as soon as I get up and bear weight on that leg it is painful. So I am now back to using a stick to get around.
