Holy crap I've never heard that it could get this bad and this just scared the hell out of me especially since I just got diagnosed with type 2...

So we're you on suppressive medicine / therapy ?

They say if you do that you don't have as many breakouts as someone who doesn't ..

    Hey rae!

Sorry to hear about that...i'm pretty much in the same situation.

I've been with the same guy since my sixteenth birthday. We have been married for 10 years now and i just had my first outbreak 2 and a half months ago. I have type 1, got it from my husband's cold sore ( even though he didn't have one at the time he gave me oral sex)

I know how you felt, i couldn't pee either but i had the catheter after the birth of my son 3 and a half months ago...i didn't wanted it again and i am really stuborn so i did not go to the hospital for that. The only way i found to make it bearrable was to apply aloe vera gel before and then pee in the shower...OK it sounds distgusting but it was really the only way...

Also, i m inconfortable down there since it happened...the doctors are telling me it's because i gave birth but the truth is i was fine before herpes...

You are not alone...i have found confort here in a way i can't get anywhere else because i don't know how to tell people i have herpes...

    What type do you have?

Is it possible you have a herniated disc? I had a disc herniate and was put on gabipentin for sciatic pain. I had the same problem going to the washroom and felt like my leg was being electricuted, I also had drop foot.

I think having an outbreak and an injury like that at the samd time would be horrible. I'm so sorry you're going through that.

I had almost exactly the same as you. I had my first outbreak in April this year which was frankly horrific for 2 weeks, I had a few days of relief and then the stabbing pains and extreme itching started. It got better and it will for you I'm sure of it.

It sounds like at least your doctor has taken it seriously and given you something to help, I was told by the clinic that I was probably paranoid about another outbreak and I had no reason to be experiencing the symptoms I was.

From my personal experience the first outbreak really is the worst and once you get through it you honestly do get back to your normal self...most days I completely forget I even have it and subaequent outbreaks have been so minor I haven't really noticed them.

I hope things start to look up for you soon but if not I'd just keep on pestering your doctor for help as I regret not asking for more help at the time xx

Thank you so much for your response. ..its nice to hear that it gets better cause im really feeling all alone and like it will never endsad

The first outbreak is usually the worst and longest. It does get better and become milder afterwards. The shooting nerve pain may just be temporary. I had some (albeit very minor) temporary nerve issues after my first outbreak, then they just disappeared. Hopefully it will be like that for you.

      Hi kati

How long did it take for the neuralgia to go away

      Do you remember?

I am looking for a light at the end of this awful tunnel

      Thanks

The stabbing pains lasted a couple of weeks after the outbreak had cleared up and I then had itching for about a month. In total I think it was about 6 weeks after my initial outbreak until I felt completely back to normal. But the important thing is that I did feel normal again and aside from the occasional very mild outbreak I usually forget I've even got it.

I know everyone's experience is different but I promise there is hope of your life getting back to how it was before diagnosis smile

      Thanks katie

I am going on week 5

I am certainly better than week one, but a long way from normal

      Ugh

Thanks so much for your reply. Its helpful to know it gets better. I have days when i wonder if this is permanent and it scares me

      Thanks again
