Anyone else unable to eat with anxiety?

I recently had an ultrasound for ovarian cysts and I am waiting for results. Years ago I was diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and now that I am 47 I worry about my health a lot. So needless to say this cyst issue has caused major health anxiety and since Oct 22 I have completely lost my appetite. I force myself to eat so I don't starve to death but this anxiety is so intense I don't feel hungry. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I have lost a few pounds because of it. Can anxiety make you not want to eat, cause constipation, and or impact the proper digestion of food?

yes anxiety can cause decreased appetite. it also plays havoc with your bowels. its normal. dont force yourself to eat.

little but often untill your appetite comes back.

Hi, i am going through a phase of bad anxiety and in 3 weeks I've lost 12lbs because my appetite has completely gone. I could do with losing the weight, but still!!

With all the weight loss do you have difficulty having energy in the day? I have let my anxiety go too far and think I need medication. Afraid of experiencing depersonalization again 😦 Now that I rarely eat, I feel nauseated when I do. Does that happen to you?

    Hi

I suffered really bad with my anxiety last year and didnt have an appetite for months so lost alot of weight. I had to tell myself to eat at least half off my plate or I would make myself worse not eating but there were foods that were easier to force down than others so I had those until my appetite came back . Every dinner I would force a few chips and a activia yoghurt and think well at least ive ate something but my main dinner in the evening was tough to get through and ended up dreading meal times. Like someone has already said little and often is best and try and find somthing you fancy even if you only have that its better than not eating at all. I wish you well.
