Anyone ever broken or sprained an ankle from standing up on a foot that was asleep, rolling it?

My wife (age 30) had a mishap.. her foot was basically asleep / no feeling, so she went to walk and her ankle turned on its side on her, crunching in the process.. somehow the xray showed no fracture, just a severe sprain and its majorly swollen and she walks with an air cast/crutches, for 2-3 weeks.

Just curous if this is common, or maybe the root cause of something else..

Take home seems to be, never try to walk on a foot thats asleep/numb, especially at 230 in the morning half asleep

No but makes sense . I'd ask the orthopedic dr if it is a regular occurrence. Glad she did not fracture it.

I'd definitely check out the reason why it was numb, because it sounds that she had bad blood circulation where there wasn't ANY feeling.
