anyone ever get nerve damage

I have posted this problem before I with concern of this new burning feeling in my foot. This is my 4week,( no weightberring total of 8 wks) and I am still having this burning fire feeling in my foot. It's not just a little burning. Which I do have sometimes, but at most times it's really bad. It's become every night. It literally feels like It's on fire and not getting any better. I called the Dr. and they said it's normal, but I find this hard to believe since most post that I read people seem to be getting better. I wanna know if anyone ever been told they have nerve damage so I can look at these real warning signs. Or if anyone else in their late recovery still having this fire feeling in their foot. I'm just concerned and looking for some relief.

Also, anyone in a waking boot and taking it off. I'm wondering if I may be doing damage taking it off. I have to sometimes because the burning feeling is so bad I need to ice the bottom of my feet.

Thank you

Jen

    Hi Jennifer,

I found your post after searching for information on exactly the same thing. I’m 4 weeks in and the burning tingling pain is often excruciating, especially at night. I can see you posted 3 years ago and wondered if you managed to get some relief or it eventually went away? I certainly hope so and that you are fully recovered.

Hi all. I am 2 weeks post op of bunionectony with bunionette. Toe graft of second toe plantar plate repair and muscle release in my calf.  I was told it looked good when I went for my follow up but I am still almost completely numb (except for the nice electrical shocks every few min) on the outside of my foot and around my heel and on parts of the top of my foot.  I had two nerve blocks that lasted for 2 days after the surgery. And when I asked about the numbness he said it was normal.  My Achilles’ tendon is swollen.  And I have bruises all along my foot and calf.  Knot in the back of my calf.  I just don’t think this is normal like he says. Any input is helpful because the pain wakes me up at night and I have been the biggest baby with the pain.  I have pain meds and muscle relaxers I take 3-4 times a day.  But it doesn’t help

I had a bunionectomy and a hammertoe repaired with the toe nail removed. I am had the same problems you are and my dr said it is normal too. I had my surgery almost 2 years ago and still have shooting pain in my foot. I had an injection in it 3 months ago and now it hurts again

The pain is wearing me out mentally and physically.  I would have rather have the pain of the bunion and my toes being crossed.

So sorry you are going through this.  My got a little better but of course now i’m on gabapentin.  So that part isn’t great either.  There are so many awful surgeons out there cutting too many people’s nerves, and have no idea what there doing.  Sometimes the people that assist them in surgery mess up too!  They end up closing your incision instead of the doctor staying around for that part.  More people need to know how common nerve injuries are from surgery.  It happens more often then people think.   I hope you recover soon!  Hang in there!

Thank you so much. I have been in gabapentine before and took myself off due to gaining 20 lbs. I am afraid I am going to have to go back on it.  I agree and what is sad is this is supposed to be the best ortho surgeon we have in this area.my fiancé and I are both having trouble understanding when he said it was normal for it to still be numb it isn’t numb where the incisions are it is areas that it isn’t.  Plus it has been over two weeks since the nerve blocks came out. So I know the anesthetic in nerve blocks lasts that long.  It is so hard because they want me to start doing light weight bearing on my heel but it is numb (except for the burning from the psoriasis- which is a weird feeling in itself) so it is hard to put pressure on it in the first place plus can’t feel how much pressure I am putting on it. It is just so frustrating and exhausting.
